HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, Deputy Majority Leader Mary E. Flowers has been a healthcare champion in Illinois since her first day in office; and

WHEREAS, During her more than three decades in the Illinois General Assembly, Leader Flowers has accomplished significant change to help disadvantaged Illinoisans obtain needed health care; and

WHEREAS, Because of Leader Flowers' leadership and her focus on health equity, she was the first chairwoman of the House Health Care Availability and Access Committee in 1997; and

WHEREAS, HB 1779, sponsored by Leaders Flowers, passed unanimously out of the House Insurance committee and out of the House chamber; and

WHEREAS, With Leader Flowers' strong resolve, Illinois became the first state to pass comprehensive biomarker testing, which will help Illinoisans receive access to the right treatment at the right time; and

WHEREAS, On September 28, 2021, The American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network honored Leader Flowers with their most prestigious award, the National Distinguished Advocacy Award, in recognition of her significant contributions to the fight against cancer and her leadership on the successful passage of first-in-the nation legislation for comprehensive biomarker testing; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Deputy Majority Leader Mary E. Flowers on her national award from the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network for her contributions in the fight against cancer; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Leader Flowers as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
