| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION

| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives wish to congratulate Officer Douglas Rashkow | ||||||
| 4 | on the occasion of his retirement from the Aurora Police | ||||||
| 5 | Department; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Officer Rashkow attended Highland High School, | ||||||
| 7 | Purdue University, and the University of Illinois; and
| ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, Officer Rashkow has served the Aurora Police | ||||||
| 9 | Department for nearly 30 years, beginning in May 1992; and
| ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, During that time, Officer Rashkow worked in the | ||||||
| 11 | Community-Oriented Policing Unit in Aurora, coordinating | ||||||
| 12 | efforts with various groups to build a strong relationship | ||||||
| 13 | between youth and the Aurora Police Department; he also served | ||||||
| 14 | on the department's Domestic Violence Reduction Unit for five | ||||||
| 15 | years, where he advocated for victims and promoted programs | ||||||
| 16 | that educate students about domestic violence; and
| ||||||
| 17 | WHEREAS, In the last 12 years, Officer Rashkow focused on | ||||||
| 18 | true community policing by working with those in crisis or | ||||||
| 19 | with mental illness, developmental or intellectual | ||||||
| 20 | disabilities, and dementia; and
| ||||||

| |||||||
| 1 | WHEREAS, Officer Rashkow also served as a coordinator and | ||||||
| 2 | crisis negotiator for the Crisis Intervention Team with the | ||||||
| 3 | goal of creating a cohesive mental health community with area | ||||||
| 4 | hospitals, service providers, and government officials by | ||||||
| 5 | providing timely wrap-around services and reducing the | ||||||
| 6 | negative stigma associated with such issues; and
| ||||||
| 7 | WHEREAS, Officer Rashkow was recognized for his diligence | ||||||
| 8 | in community service, advocacy for domestic violence victims, | ||||||
| 9 | and continual work with seniors within his community with the | ||||||
| 10 | Law Enforcement Award by the Illinois State Bar Association | ||||||
| 11 | (ISBA) in 2019; and
| ||||||
| 12 | WHEREAS, Officer Rashkow will continue serving with the | ||||||
| 13 | Benedictine University Police; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 14 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 15 | HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 16 | we congratulate Officer Douglas Rashkow on his retirement from | ||||||
| 17 | the Aurora Police Department, recognize his service to the | ||||||
| 18 | City of Aurora, and wish him the best in his future endeavors; | ||||||
| 19 | and be it further
| ||||||
| 20 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 21 | presented to Officer Rashkow as an expression of our esteem | ||||||
| 22 | and respect.
