| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, February 18, 2022 marks National Caregivers Day, | ||||||
| 3 | created in 2015 to recognize in-home caregivers who provide | ||||||
| 4 | personal care and support to enable millions of Americans who | ||||||
| 5 | are aging or who have a disability to remain safe and healthy | ||||||
| 6 | in their own homes; and
| ||||||
| 7 | WHEREAS, Home care has emerged as a valuable solution to | ||||||
| 8 | fill gaps created by traditional care models, including | ||||||
| 9 | hospitals, nursing homes, and home health; and
| ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, Professional caregivers work for licensed | ||||||
| 11 | Illinois home care agencies and receive training to enable | ||||||
| 12 | them to assist with activities of daily living, such as | ||||||
| 13 | bathing, dressing, and meal preparation; and | ||||||
| 14 | WHEREAS, Professional caregivers provide vital | ||||||
| 15 | companionship and mental stimulation by engaging their clients | ||||||
| 16 | in conversation and other activities; and | ||||||
| 17 | WHEREAS, Professional caregivers help home bound | ||||||
| 18 | individuals lead more independent lives, preventing falls and | ||||||
| 19 | other common injuries, promoting medication adherence, and | ||||||
| 20 | reducing social isolation; and | ||||||

| 1 | WHEREAS, Professional caregivers, who number nearly 4.6 | ||||||
| 2 | million in the United States, and family caregivers, who are | ||||||
| 3 | estimated at 44 million, are lifelines to millions of | ||||||
| 4 | Americans, keeping them safe, healthy, and engaged; and | ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, The home care industry is among the fastest | ||||||
| 6 | growing healthcare industries in the U.S. and Illinois; and
| ||||||
| 7 | WHEREAS, The Home Care Association Illinois Chapter | ||||||
| 8 | continuously advocates on behalf of providers and professional | ||||||
| 9 | caregivers who have been essential in the fight against | ||||||
| 10 | COVID-19; and
| ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, Caregivers have faced the challenge of COVID-19, | ||||||
| 12 | not only caring for their clients but also risking their own | ||||||
| 13 | personal health and safety while doing so; and
| ||||||
| 14 | WHEREAS, Home care workers enable families to stay | ||||||
| 15 | together at home safely and with dignity as they age; | ||||||
| 16 | therefore, be it

| 17 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 18 | HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 19 | we declare February 18, 2022 as "Illinois Caregiver Day"; and | ||||||
| 20 | be it further | ||||||

| 1 | RESOLVED, That we express our gratitude to caregivers for | ||||||
| 2 | their unwavering commitment to the care of their clients and | ||||||
| 3 | families, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic; and be it | ||||||
| 4 | further
| ||||||
| 5 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 6 | delivered to the Governor and the Director of the Illinois | ||||||
| 7 | Department of Public Health.
