| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, Cancer is the second leading cause of death in | ||||||
| 3 | Illinois and is the leading cause of death from disease among | ||||||
| 4 | children from birth to age 14; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, In 2021, an estimated 74,980 Illinoisans will be | ||||||
| 6 | diagnosed with cancer, and 23,070 Illinois residents will die | ||||||
| 7 | from cancer; and
| ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, The upcoming 2022-2027 Illinois Comprehensive | ||||||
| 9 | Cancer Control Plan identifies three priority areas to reduce | ||||||
| 10 | the incidence, morbidity, and mortality of cancer and improve | ||||||
| 11 | survivorship in Illinois; the three priority areas include 1) | ||||||
| 12 | Prevention, 2) Early Detection and Screening, and 3) | ||||||
| 13 | Diagnosis, Treatment, and Survivorship; and
| ||||||
| 14 | WHEREAS, The upcoming 2022-2027 Illinois Comprehensive | ||||||
| 15 | Cancer Control Plan seeks to increase awareness of and access | ||||||
| 16 | to cancer education, screening, treatment, and long-term | ||||||
| 17 | survivorship care, decrease death and suffering from cancer, | ||||||
| 18 | and eliminate the disparities that disproportionately affect | ||||||
| 19 | those population groups who experience social, economic, and | ||||||
| 20 | environmental disadvantages whether according to race, | ||||||
| 21 | ethnicity, age, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, | ||||||
| 22 | disability, religion, or language; and
| ||||||

| 1 | WHEREAS, A robust community engagement strategy with | ||||||
| 2 | collaboration among Illinois legislators, state departments | ||||||
| 3 | and divisions, local health departments, health care systems, | ||||||
| 4 | hospitals, health care providers, patients, caregivers, | ||||||
| 5 | advocates, academic institutions, nonprofit organizations, and | ||||||
| 6 | others is needed to achieve the three priorities of the | ||||||
| 7 | 2022-2027 Illinois Comprehensive Cancer Control Plan; and
| ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, The 2022-2027 Illinois Comprehensive Cancer | ||||||
| 9 | Control Plan recognizes the urgent need to address cancer | ||||||
| 10 | health equity and health disparities in Illinois by providing | ||||||
| 11 | a framework for strategies and interventions to address | ||||||
| 12 | structural and systemic barriers that can reduce the risk of | ||||||
| 13 | cancer and improve the lives of Illinois residents diagnosed | ||||||
| 14 | with cancer; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 15 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 16 | HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 17 | we urge all legislators to support and promote the 2022-2027 | ||||||
| 18 | Illinois Comprehensive Cancer Control Plan and to help achieve | ||||||
| 19 | the three priority areas by engaging, educating, and | ||||||
| 20 | empowering their constituents through community forums or | ||||||
| 21 | other efforts across the state of Illinois; and be it further
| ||||||
| 22 | RESOLVED, That we recognize the Illinois Cancer | ||||||

| 1 | Partnership and its Executive Committee for their leadership | ||||||
| 2 | in the development of the 2022-2027 Illinois Comprehensive | ||||||
| 3 | Cancer Plan; and be it further
| ||||||
| 4 | RESOLVED, That we recognize the American Cancer Society, | ||||||
| 5 | Anderson Hospital/Anderson Mercy Cancer Care, Cook County | ||||||
| 6 | Health System, the Hope Light Foundation, the University of | ||||||
| 7 | Illinois at Chicago, the University of Illinois Cancer Center, | ||||||
| 8 | the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center, SIHF | ||||||
| 9 | Healthcare, the Blue Hat Foundation, Southern Illinois | ||||||
| 10 | Healthcare, the University of Chicago Comprehensive Cancer | ||||||
| 11 | Center, University of Chicago Medicine, and the University of | ||||||
| 12 | Illinois Cancer Center for their contributions to the | ||||||
| 13 | development and implementation of the 2022-2027 Illinois | ||||||
| 14 | Comprehensive Cancer Plan community engagement.
| ||||||
