HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, Illinois is home to the second largest population 
3of residents with Ukrainian ancestry in the United States, 
4only behind New York state, with over 50,000 
5Ukrainian-Americans living in the Land of Lincoln; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, Chicago's Ukrainian Village fosters a vibrant 
7population of over 15,000 residents of Ukrainian descent in a 
8community built on centuries of history; and
  
 
9    WHEREAS, Russian dictator Vladimir Putin launched a 
10reckless and unnecessary full scale invasion on neighboring 
11Ukraine on February 24, 2022 after years of tension and 
12aggressive tactics along the border between the two countries; 
13and
  
 
14    WHEREAS, State retirement funds invested in Russian assets 
15support Vladimir Putin's economy and aid in his evil plan to 
16wage war upon the Ukrainian people and the European continent; 
17therefore, be it
  
 
18    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 
19HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
20we condemn Russia for its attack on the sovereign nation of 
21Ukraine; and be it further

1    RESOLVED, That we urge the review and divestment of all 
2funds invested by any  State or local unit of government, 
3including but not limited to investments made by the State 
4Board of Investments and any state or local retirement funds 
5that are directly or indirectly related to Russia, to show 
6solidarity with the people of Ukraine.
