| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives wish to congratulate Beryl Washington on the | ||||||
| 4 | occasion of her retirement from Warren Township High School; | ||||||
| 5 | and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Beryl Washington grew up in Virginia with her | ||||||
| 7 | parents, who were both educators, and her five siblings; she | ||||||
| 8 | received her bachelor's degree in Social Science from James | ||||||
| 9 | Madison University, where she later earned a second degree in | ||||||
| 10 | Library Science; she earned her first master's degree in | ||||||
| 11 | Educational Leadership and Administration and her second | ||||||
| 12 | master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction, both from the | ||||||
| 13 | American College of Education; and
| ||||||
| 14 | WHEREAS, Beryl Washington began her career as an academic | ||||||
| 15 | advisor at James Madison University; upon receiving her second | ||||||
| 16 | degree, she began teaching at Wilbur S. Pence Middle School in | ||||||
| 17 | Rockingham County, Virginia; she moved with her husband and | ||||||
| 18 | two children to Illinois in 1999, where she became the | ||||||
| 19 | librarian of Meadowview Elementary School in Grayslake; and
| ||||||
| 20 | WHEREAS, Beryl Washington became the librarian of Warren | ||||||
| 21 | Township High School in 2001, where she has dedicated herself | ||||||
| 22 | to serving the high school and its community for the last 21 | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | years; and
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, During her tenure, Beryl Washington has helped | ||||||
| 3 | countless Warren Township High School students over the years, | ||||||
| 4 | working hard to ensure their success in academic work and | ||||||
| 5 | beyond; she has worked tirelessly to advocate for students, | ||||||
| 6 | whether she assisted them in pursuing scholarship | ||||||
| 7 | opportunities or in amplifying their voices, making sure each | ||||||
| 8 | student was heard and valued; in addition, she has exuded | ||||||
| 9 | endless school spirit for the Warren Blue Devils, supporting | ||||||
| 10 | as many extracurricular activities as possible; and
| ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, Beryl Washington has become a legend in the | ||||||
| 12 | Warren Township High School community for her warmth and | ||||||
| 13 | positivity and for the genuine love she has for interacting | ||||||
| 14 | with students; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 15 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 16 | HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 17 | we congratulate Beryl Washington on her retirement from Warren | ||||||
| 18 | Township High School and wish her the best in her future | ||||||
| 19 | endeavors; and be it further
| ||||||
| 20 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 21 | presented to Beryl Washington as an expression of our esteem | ||||||
| 22 | and respect.
