HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, Sergio Escobedo is a sixth grade student at Aux 
3Sable Middle School in Plainfield; and
  
 
4    WHEREAS, Sergio Escobedo was at lunch on St. Patrick's Day 
5and noticed his friend was coughing and choking;
initially, he 
6thought his friend was joking, but then his friend's face 
7turned from red to bright purple; and
  
 
8    WHEREAS, Sergio Escobedo responded quickly and proceeded 
9to perform the Heimlich maneuver on his friend;
upon the 
10arrival of school staff, his friend was breathing again; and
  
 
11    WHEREAS, Sergio Escobedo was  to be his friend's "lucky 
12charm" on that St. Patrick's Day according to  the school 
13nurse; and
  
 
14    WHEREAS, Sergio Escobedo provided assistance and care for 
15his friend and saved his life; and
  
 
16    WHEREAS, Sergio Escobedo's advice for others in a similar 
17situation is to  remain calm and not overthink it; therefore, 
18be it
  
 
19    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE

1HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
2we recognize Sergio Escobedo for his quick, decisive, and 
3lifesaving actions to help a friend in dire need; and be it 
4further
 
5    RESOLVED, That we should all strive to help others in need 
6in similar ways and, per Sergio Escobedo's advice, remain calm 
7and not overthink it; and be it further
  
 
8    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
9presented to Sergio Escobedo as an expression of our esteem 
10and respect.
