| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives wish to congratulate Resurrection College Prep | ||||||
| 4 | High School on the occasion of its centennial anniversary; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Resurrection College Prep High School is a | ||||||
| 6 | Northwest Side, Catholic institution that follows the | ||||||
| 7 | Lasallian tradition and is committed to its students' | ||||||
| 8 | spiritual, ethical, intellectual, physical, and social growth; | ||||||
| 9 | and
| ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, Resurrection College Prep High School's origins | ||||||
| 11 | began in 1912, when Sister Anne Strzelecka of the Congregation | ||||||
| 12 | of the Resurrection purchased more than 42 acres of land in | ||||||
| 13 | Chicago, which is located on Talcott Avenue today; she built a | ||||||
| 14 | convent and opened Resurrection Academy Elementary School for | ||||||
| 15 | girls and boys in 1914, with the addition of a boarding school | ||||||
| 16 | for girls in 1915; and
| ||||||
| 17 | WHEREAS, Resurrection College Prep High School was founded | ||||||
| 18 | by the Sisters of the Resurrection in 1922, with the mission at | ||||||
| 19 | the time focused centrally on transforming society by lifting | ||||||
| 20 | women through education; and
| ||||||
| 21 | WHEREAS, Resurrection College Prep High School's first | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | graduating class consisted of four women in 1926; and
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, Resurrection College Prep High School ended | ||||||
| 3 | boarding to relieve capacity issues in 1954, resulting from a | ||||||
| 4 | rapid population increase following World War II; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Resurrection College Prep High School eliminated | ||||||
| 6 | its elementary department in 1961 and opened a larger school | ||||||
| 7 | building one year later; and
| ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, Resurrection College Prep High School has | ||||||
| 9 | experienced years of additions and renovations, including an | ||||||
| 10 | $11 million program in 1997 that added science labs, computer | ||||||
| 11 | labs, and more; and
| ||||||
| 12 | WHEREAS, Resurrection College Prep High School has been | ||||||
| 13 | sponsored by the Christian Brothers of the Midwest since 2020, | ||||||
| 14 | welcoming the school community into the Lasallian school | ||||||
| 15 | network; and
| ||||||
| 16 | WHEREAS, Since its founding 100 years ago, Resurrection | ||||||
| 17 | College Prep High School has graduated nearly 15,000 alumnae; | ||||||
| 18 | and
| ||||||
| 19 | WHEREAS, Resurrection College Prep High School's motto is | ||||||
| 20 | Charity & Truth, and the school logo includes the red | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | resurrection banner with the cross; and
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, Resurrection College Prep High School's | ||||||
| 3 | administration and staff believe that the empowerment of young | ||||||
| 4 | women can make a difference in the world, and the school works | ||||||
| 5 | to provide an enriching education for its students that | ||||||
| 6 | prepares them for the challenges and opportunities that lie | ||||||
| 7 | ahead following graduation; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 8 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 9 | HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 10 | we congratulate Resurrection College Prep High School on its | ||||||
| 11 | centennial anniversary and wish it continued success; and be | ||||||
| 12 | it further
| ||||||
| 13 | RESOLVED, That we congratulate the alumnae, | ||||||
| 14 | administration, staff, and students of Resurrection College | ||||||
| 15 | Prep High School on this momentous occasion; and be it further
| ||||||
| 16 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 17 | presented to Resurrection College Prep High School President | ||||||
| 18 | Dr. Richard Piwowarski on this commendable accomplishment.
