HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate the Village of 
4Dahlgren on the occasion its 150th anniversary; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, Dahlgren began to be settled in December 1870 as 
6a result of the construction of the then-St. Louis & 
7Southeastern Railroad in the northwestern portion of Hamilton 
8County, 11 miles from McLeansboro; and
  
 
9    WHEREAS, Dahlgren was officially established by Deed of 
10Dedication on March 29, 1872, taking its name from Rear 
11Admiral John A.B. Dahlgren, a prominent Union officer during 
12the American Civil War who founded the U.S. Navy's Bureau of 
13Ordnance and was known for helping General Sherman secure 
14Savannah, Georgia during the war; and
  
 
15    WHEREAS, The historic Louisville & Nashville Railroad 
16Depot, owned by the village, remains in excellent condition, 
17providing an iconic and pristine example of "Railroad 
18Gingerbread" style railway architecture; and
 
19    WHEREAS, The Alligator Hotel, named for its collection of 
20live alligators that guests traveled great distances to see, 
21brought great notoriety to Dahlgren in its early years, with

1its basement serving as one of the earliest assembly locations 
2for the original Ford Model T; and
  
 
3    WHEREAS, Dahlgren is home to Dahlgren Elementary School, 
4home of the Bulldogs, and a part of the Hamilton County Unit 
5#10 School District; and
 
6    WHEREAS, To commemorate its 150th anniversary, festivities 
7are to take place across Dahlgren, culminating with a 
8celebratory event on July 1, 2022; therefore, be it
  
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 
10HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
11we congratulate the Village of Dahlgren on the occasion of its 
12sesquicentennial anniversary,  wish the village tremendous 
13success on its celebration, and wish the village's residents 
14success and prosperity in the years to come; and be it further
  
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
16presented to the President of the Village of Dahlgren as a 
17symbol of our admiration and respect on the occasion of 
18Dahlgren's 150th anniversary celebration.
