| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives are pleased to congratulate the Village of |
| 4 | | Dahlgren on the occasion its 150th anniversary; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Dahlgren began to be settled in December 1870 as |
| 6 | | a result of the construction of the then-St. Louis & |
| 7 | | Southeastern Railroad in the northwestern portion of Hamilton |
| 8 | | County, 11 miles from McLeansboro; and
|
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Dahlgren was officially established by Deed of |
| 10 | | Dedication on March 29, 1872, taking its name from Rear |
| 11 | | Admiral John A.B. Dahlgren, a prominent Union officer during |
| 12 | | the American Civil War who founded the U.S. Navy's Bureau of |
| 13 | | Ordnance and was known for helping General Sherman secure |
| 14 | | Savannah, Georgia during the war; and
|
| 15 | | WHEREAS, The historic Louisville & Nashville Railroad |
| 16 | | Depot, owned by the village, remains in excellent condition, |
| 17 | | providing an iconic and pristine example of "Railroad |
| 18 | | Gingerbread" style railway architecture; and |
| 19 | | WHEREAS, The Alligator Hotel, named for its collection of |
| 20 | | live alligators that guests traveled great distances to see, |
| 21 | | brought great notoriety to Dahlgren in its early years, with |
