HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to congratulate the Foundation for Asian 
4American Independent Media (FAAIM) and the Asian American 
5Showcase on celebrating emerging Asian American artists and 
6helping them reach a wider audience for over 25 years; and
  
 
7    WHEREAS, FAAIM was founded in 1995 to bring the rich and 
8diverse voices within the filmmaking and visual arts to a 
9wider audience; and
  
 
10    WHEREAS, FAAIM holds a variety of community-based events; 
11most notably, the foundation hosts the annual Asian American 
12Showcase, a film festival in Chicago to support artists and 
13create a grassroots audience for their work; and
  
 
14    WHEREAS, FAAIM understands the lack of visibility in art 
15and media when it comes to Asian American representation, and 
16often when Asian Americans do receive representation in art 
17and media, they are portrayed with outdated, harmful 
18stereotypes; the foundation aims to counter these beliefs; and
  
 
19    WHEREAS, FAAIM also understands that Asian Americans 
20struggle to access the necessary resources and equipment to 
21produce their work or art and also face difficulties in

1distributing their work; and
  
 
2    WHEREAS, FAAIM was founded and continues to be sustained 
3by a group of deeply committed and dedicated individuals, 
4including  Festival Director Tim Hugh, Film Programming 
5Directors Jonathan Laxamana and Jon Monteverde, and 
6Programming and Marketing Director Huu T. Ly,  without whose 
7passion  we would not have been able to enjoy more than 25 years 
8of valuable programming in the form of the Asian American 
9Showcase; therefore, be it
  
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 
11HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
12we congratulate the Foundation for Asian American Independent 
13Media (FAAIM) and the Asian American Showcase on promoting the 
14work of Asian American artists for over 25 years; and be it 
15further
  
 
16    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be 
17presented to the Foundation for Asian American Independent 
18Media (FAAIM) and the Asian American Showcase.
