| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION

| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives wish to congratulate the United States Army | ||||||
| 4 | Reserve on the occasion of its 114th birthday; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, On April 23rd, America's Army Reserve will | ||||||
| 6 | celebrate the generations of soldiers who, like many patriots | ||||||
| 7 | before them, embraced their roles as citizen soldiers by | ||||||
| 8 | continuing the proud and distinguished legacy of service in | ||||||
| 9 | the Army Reserve; and
| ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, The U.S. Army Reserve is the U.S. Army's sole | ||||||
| 11 | dedicated Federal Reserve force, providing operational | ||||||
| 12 | capability and strategic depth to the total Army and the Joint | ||||||
| 13 | Force in support of U.S. national security interests and Army | ||||||
| 14 | commitments worldwide; and
| ||||||
| 15 | WHEREAS, Through the interwar years, World War II, the | ||||||
| 16 | Cold War, Korea, Vietnam, the Persian Gulf War, the Global War | ||||||
| 17 | on Terror, and countless other crises, operations, | ||||||
| 18 | emergencies, and natural disasters, warrior citizens of the | ||||||
| 19 | Army Reserve have never failed to answer the nation's call; | ||||||
| 20 | and
| ||||||
| 21 | WHEREAS, On April 23, 1908, Congress created the Medical | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | Reserve Corps, which was a group of 160 doctors formed to | ||||||
| 2 | provide the nation with a reservoir of trained medical | ||||||
| 3 | professionals for employment in times of national emergency; | ||||||
| 4 | and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, A month after Congress established the Medical | ||||||
| 6 | Reserve Corps, President Theodore Roosevelt, one of the Army | ||||||
| 7 | Reserve's greatest citizen soldiers, signed the bill into law; | ||||||
| 8 | later, under the National Defense Act of 1916, Congress | ||||||
| 9 | created the Officers' Reserve Corps and the Enlisted Reserve | ||||||
| 10 | Corps; and
| ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, On June 24, 1921, the 76th through the 101st | ||||||
| 12 | Divisions were reconstituted or constituted in the Organized | ||||||
| 13 | Reserve; and
| ||||||
| 14 | WHEREAS, Operating as an Army component and | ||||||
| 15 | force-providing command, the Army Reserve has a | ||||||
| 16 | congressionally authorized strength of 199,000 soldiers, more | ||||||
| 17 | than 11,000 civilians, and 2,075 units; the Army Reserve | ||||||
| 18 | resides and operates in every state, five U.S. territories, | ||||||
| 19 | and 30 countries; and
| ||||||
| 20 | WHEREAS, Throughout history, citizen soldiers have | ||||||
| 21 | leveraged professional skills while serving in uniform; they | ||||||
| 22 | have added substantial value and depth to the force with | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | skills, education, and expertise acquired in the private | ||||||
| 2 | sector; and
| ||||||
| 3 | WHEREAS, The U.S. Army Reserve has always been, and will | ||||||
| 4 | continue to be, comprised of men and women with great talents; | ||||||
| 5 | therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 6 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 7 | HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 8 | we congratulate the United States Army Reserve on the occasion | ||||||
| 9 | of its 114th birthday in service to the United States Army and | ||||||
| 10 | this nation; and be it further
| ||||||
| 11 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 12 | presented to the U.S. Army Reserve as a symbol of our esteem | ||||||
| 13 | and respect.
