HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to congratulate Darrell Levell Wimberly, 
4affectionately known as Mr. Wimbo, on the occasion of his 
5retirement from Marion High School after nearly 20 years; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, Darrell Wimberly was born in Louisville, Kentucky 
7on August 23, 1963; and
  
 
8    WHEREAS, Darrell Wimberly was a standout athlete at Butler 
9High School in Louisville, Kentucky, where he starred in 
10football and basketball; and
  
 
11    WHEREAS,  Darrell Wimberly attended the University of 
12Louisville and  found great success as a linebacker from 1978 
13to 1982; and
  
 
14    WHEREAS, Darrell Wimberly tried out for the NFL with the 
15New York Jets, but life had bigger plans for him; and
  
 
16    WHEREAS, Darrell Wimberly built a successful career 
17selling insurance for Commonwealth Life Insurance in the 
18Louisville, Kentucky area for 20 years; and
  
 
19    WHEREAS, In 2000, Darrell Wimberly moved to Marion, where

1he sold insurance for five years before feeling called to 
2apply for a job with Marion High School; and
  
 
3    WHEREAS, Darrell Wimberly worked as a volunteer football 
4coach at Marion High School starting in 2000; he was hired as 
5Dean of Students at Marion High School in July 2002, and he has 
6worked as an administrator, football coach, and basketball 
7coach at Marion High School for nearly 20 years; and
  
 
8    WHEREAS, Darrell Wimberly has served as a mentor, 
9advocate, and role model for thousands of Marion High School 
10athletes and students, bettering their lives towards brighter 
11futures; and
  
 
12    WHEREAS, Darrell Wimberly has served as a pastor at East 
13Liberty Church in rural Marion since 2002; he has also served 
14as a guest speaker, prayer leader, and preacher at various 
15Marion area weddings, funerals, vigils, and community 
16gatherings; he has served on countless boards and  committees 
17and with community organizations; and
  
 
18    WHEREAS, Through his service to his students and his 
19community, Darrell Wimberly has provided inspiration to his 
20fellow coaches, administrators, and teachers with his 
21positivity and guidance; and

1    WHEREAS, Darrell Wimberly married Deon Wimberly on 
2December 22, 1994, and he is a  father of five children, 
3including two daughters and three stepchildren; therefore, be 
4it
  
 
5    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 
6HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
7we congratulate Darrell Levell Wimberly, affectionately known 
8as  Mr. Wimbo, on his retirement from Marion High School after 
9nearly 20 years of service; and be it further
  
 
10    RESOLVED, That we recognize Darrell Wimberly for his 
11positive impact on the lives of  thousands of Marion students, 
12parents, residents, and community members during his career; 
13and be it further
  
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
15presented to Darrell Wimberly as a symbol of our respect and 
16esteem.
