HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to recognize the Chicago Region SCCA 
4(Sports Car Club of America) on its 75th anniversary; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, The Chicago Region SCCA began in the late fall of 
61948 with Fred Wacker serving as the first Regional Executive; 
7and
  
 
8    WHEREAS, The Chicago Region SCCA members wanted to hold 
9road racing events similar to those being held on the east 
10coast, and in 1950, the  original Elkhart Lake race was held on 
11roads just north of the lake and northwest of town; and
  
 
12    WHEREAS, Due to the success of the Elkhart Lake races, 
13there was considerable enthusiasm for a closed course road 
14race circuit on a gravelly hillside site on the outskirts of 
15town; with help and assistance from the Chicago Region SCCA, 
16Road America, the first permanent road racing course in the 
17United States, was completed just in time for the Chicago 
18Region to conduct an SCCA national race on September 9, 1955; 
19in June of 1956, a second national race was held, the first 
20ever Chicago Region June Sprints; the June Sprints have been 
21held consecutively at Road America every year since; and

1    WHEREAS, The partnership between the Chicago Region SCCA 
2and Road America remains strong; the SCCA  still sanctions two 
3amateur road races a year at Road America, and SCCA members 
4also staff corner stations and key positions at pro-racing 
5events such as IndyCar, IMSA, and NASCAR road races; and
 
  
6    WHEREAS, The Chicago Region SCCA currently has 1,364 
7members and hosts many other motorsports-related events; in 
8addition to four road racing events each year at three 
9different road racing venues, it conducts eight Autocross 
10(Solo) events, seven Track Day events, and several social 
11functions; therefore, be it
  
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 
13HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
14we recognize the Chicago Region SCCA (Sports Car Club of 
15America) on its 75th anniversary and wish them many more 
16wonderful years; and be it further
  
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
18presented to the Chicago Region SCCA as a symbol of our respect 
19and esteem.
