| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives wish to congratulate the Illinois Symphony | ||||||
| 4 | Orchestra on the occasion of its 30th anniversary in central | ||||||
| 5 | Illinois; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, The Illinois Symphony Orchestra was formed in | ||||||
| 7 | 1993 as a consolidation of two well established organizations, | ||||||
| 8 | the Springfield Symphony Orchestra Association and the | ||||||
| 9 | Bloomington-Normal Symphony Society; and
| ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, The Illinois Symphony Orchestra is central | ||||||
| 11 | Illinois' largest professional orchestra, serving over 35,000 | ||||||
| 12 | patrons in the communities of Bloomington-Normal, Springfield, | ||||||
| 13 | and the surrounding region through its symphony orchestra | ||||||
| 14 | concerts, chamber orchestra concerts, and educational outreach | ||||||
| 15 | concert program, Concerts for Kids; and
| ||||||
| 16 | WHEREAS, Recognizing that live music has the potential to | ||||||
| 17 | transform, rejuvenate, encourage, and inspire, the Illinois | ||||||
| 18 | Symphony Orchestra proudly serves as a vital cultural | ||||||
| 19 | resource, an educational partner, and an invaluable | ||||||
| 20 | enhancement to the quality of life in Springfield and | ||||||
| 21 | Bloomington-Normal; and
| ||||||

| 1 | WHEREAS, The Illinois Symphony Orchestra performs in | ||||||
| 2 | Bloomington-Normal at the Bloomington Center for the | ||||||
| 3 | Performing Arts and the Second Presbyterian Church and in | ||||||
| 4 | Springfield at the Sangamon Auditorium and the First | ||||||
| 5 | Presbyterian Church; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, The Illinois Symphony Orchestra has appeared at | ||||||
| 7 | Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall in New York; it has also | ||||||
| 8 | performed statewide, with appearances at the Illinois State | ||||||
| 9 | Fair, Millennium Park in Chicago, and the Ravinia Festival in | ||||||
| 10 | Highland Park; and
| ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, The Illinois Symphony Orchestra has been actively | ||||||
| 12 | involved in community engagement, including its 2009 Lincoln | ||||||
| 13 | Bicentennial Celebration that involved over 1,000 performers | ||||||
| 14 | and was named the Community Event of the Year by the Illinois | ||||||
| 15 | Council of Orchestras and its commemorative concert for the | ||||||
| 16 | 150th Anniversary of the Lincoln Funeral Train in 2015 that | ||||||
| 17 | included over 250 performers from throughout central Illinois; | ||||||
| 18 | and
| ||||||
| 19 | WHEREAS, In recent years, the Illinois Symphony Orchestra | ||||||
| 20 | has striven to continue entertaining and inspiring during | ||||||
| 21 | COVID restrictions through its Get to Know the ISO series | ||||||
| 22 | featured on its YouTube channel; and
| ||||||

| 1 | WHEREAS, The Illinois Symphony Orchestra was recently | ||||||
| 2 | selected to be on the list of the top eight things visitors | ||||||
| 3 | should see or do in Illinois by the website Only In Your State; | ||||||
| 4 | therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 5 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 6 | HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 7 | we congratulate the Illinois Symphony Orchestra on the | ||||||
| 8 | occasion of its 30th anniversary, and we thank current Music | ||||||
| 9 | Director Ken Lam and all of the orchestra's musicians for | ||||||
| 10 | enriching the lives of Central Illinois residents.
