HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to congratulate Avery Smith on 
4participating in the first ever Illinois High School 
5Association (IHSA) Girls Wrestling State Tournament and being 
6the first wrestler from Red Bud High School to place at an IHSA 
7state tournament, winning fourth place; and
  
 
8    WHEREAS, Avery Smith, a sophomore, is originally from 
9Valmeyer High School but was able to get a cooperative 
10agreement to wrestle for Red Bud High School; at 120 pounds, 
11she opened the tournament with a win over Vanessa Torres of 
12Curie Metropolitan High School (Chicago), followed by a loss 
13to Freeport High School's Cadence Diduch; she then defeated 
14Stejah Allen of Joliet West High School, Pyper Wood of Normal 
15Community High School, and Ireland McCain of Round Lake High 
16School before falling in the third place match to Hannah 
17Suboni-Kaufman of Maine East High School (Park Ridge); and
  
 
18    WHEREAS, Avery Smith finished the season with a record of 
1920 and 15; she has won almost all of her matches by pin and was 
20an All-Cahokia Conference award-winner; she  also placed second 
21at the Peoria Sectional, going 3-1 in that tournament; and
  
 

  
22    WHEREAS, Avery Smith's accomplishments showcase her

1strength and her passion for wrestling, and she stands as a 
2role model for other young girls; therefore, be it
  
 
3    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 
4HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
5we congratulate Avery Smith on participating in the first ever 
6IHSA Girls Wrestling State Tournament and being the first 
7wrestler from Red Bud High School to place at an IHSA state 
8tournament, winning fourth place; and be it further
  
 
9    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
10presented to Avery Smith as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
