HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate Patricia Johnson,
4M.D. on receiving the 2022 Rural Physician Lifetime of Service
5Award from the Illinois Rural Health Association; and
 
6    WHEREAS, One of the biggest healthcare challenges across
7our nation is the shortage of physicians who practice in rural
8settings, especially oncologists; and
 
9    WHEREAS, After receiving doctoral degrees in both
10philosophy and microbiology from the University of Illinois in
111974, Dr. Johnson earned her medical degree from Rush Medical
12College in 1977; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Dr. Johnson completed her residency in internal
14medicine at Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke's Hospital in 1980 and
15her fellowship there in oncology in 1982; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Dr. Johnson has been serving patients in central
17Illinois since 1982 when she began her work with Carle; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Since 1991, Dr. Johnson has provided oncology
19services to Gibson Area Hospital and Health Systems, where she
20has treated several generations of many families; and

1    WHEREAS, Dr. Johnson has made treating rural cancer
2patients a top priority and feels it is important for them not
3to have to travel far for specialty care during their most
4challenging times; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Dr. Johnson also serves as the medical director
6of Iroquois Memorial Hospice; and
 
7    WHEREAS, In addition to patient care, Dr. Johnson has held
8various leadership positions with the American Cancer Society,
9the Carle Foundation, and the Mills Breast Cancer Institute;
10and
 
11    WHEREAS, Since 1982, Dr. Johnson has served as an adjunct
12professor at the University of Illinois College of Medicine,
13where she has trained hundreds of medical students to offer
14exceptional patient care; and
 
15    WHEREAS, In her "free time", Dr. Johnson and her husband
16can be found on the dance floor, displaying their ballroom
17dance moves; therefore, be it
 
18    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
19HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
20we congratulate Patricia Johnson, M.D. on receiving the 2022

1Rural Physician Lifetime of Service Award from the Illinois
2Rural Health Association and commend her for her compassion
3and dedication to her patients and for filling such a
4tremendous void in rural medicine over the past 40 years in
5central Illinois; and be it further
 
6    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
7presented to Dr. Johnson as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
