| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives are pleased to congratulate Patricia Johnson, | ||||||
| 4 | M.D. on receiving the 2022 Rural Physician Lifetime of Service | ||||||
| 5 | Award from the Illinois Rural Health Association; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, One of the biggest healthcare challenges across | ||||||
| 7 | our nation is the shortage of physicians who practice in rural | ||||||
| 8 | settings, especially oncologists; and
| ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, After receiving doctoral degrees in both | ||||||
| 10 | philosophy and microbiology from the University of Illinois in | ||||||
| 11 | 1974, Dr. Johnson earned her medical degree from Rush Medical | ||||||
| 12 | College in 1977; and | ||||||
| 13 | WHEREAS, Dr. Johnson completed her residency in internal | ||||||
| 14 | medicine at Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke's Hospital in 1980 and | ||||||
| 15 | her fellowship there in oncology in 1982; and | ||||||
| 16 | WHEREAS, Dr. Johnson has been serving patients in central | ||||||
| 17 | Illinois since 1982 when she began her work with Carle; and | ||||||
| 18 | WHEREAS, Since 1991, Dr. Johnson has provided oncology | ||||||
| 19 | services to Gibson Area Hospital and Health Systems, where she | ||||||
| 20 | has treated several generations of many families; and | ||||||

| |||||||
| 1 | WHEREAS, Dr. Johnson has made treating rural cancer | ||||||
| 2 | patients a top priority and feels it is important for them not | ||||||
| 3 | to have to travel far for specialty care during their most | ||||||
| 4 | challenging times; and | ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Dr. Johnson also serves as the medical director | ||||||
| 6 | of Iroquois Memorial Hospice; and
| ||||||
| 7 | WHEREAS, In addition to patient care, Dr. Johnson has held | ||||||
| 8 | various leadership positions with the American Cancer Society, | ||||||
| 9 | the Carle Foundation, and the Mills Breast Cancer Institute; | ||||||
| 10 | and
| ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, Since 1982, Dr. Johnson has served as an adjunct | ||||||
| 12 | professor at the University of Illinois College of Medicine, | ||||||
| 13 | where she has trained hundreds of medical students to offer | ||||||
| 14 | exceptional patient care; and
| ||||||
| 15 | WHEREAS, In her "free time", Dr. Johnson and her husband | ||||||
| 16 | can be found on the dance floor, displaying their ballroom | ||||||
| 17 | dance moves; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 18 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 19 | HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 20 | we congratulate Patricia Johnson, M.D. on receiving the 2022 | ||||||

| 1 | Rural Physician Lifetime of Service Award from the Illinois | ||||||
| 2 | Rural Health Association and commend her for her compassion | ||||||
| 3 | and dedication to her patients and for filling such a | ||||||
| 4 | tremendous void in rural medicine over the past 40 years in | ||||||
| 5 | central Illinois; and be it further
| ||||||
| 6 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 7 | presented to Dr. Johnson as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
