| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives wish to congratulate President Michael L. Elbe | ||||||
| 4 | on the occasion of his retirement from John Wood Community | ||||||
| 5 | College, Illinois Community College District #539, at the end | ||||||
| 6 | of the Fall 2022 semester; and
| ||||||
| 7 | WHEREAS, John Wood Community College was founded in 1974, | ||||||
| 8 | with its first academic year held in 1975; since then, the | ||||||
| 9 | college has had thousands of students successfully complete | ||||||
| 10 | associate degree and certificate specific course work; and
| ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, President Elbe is the sixth president of John | ||||||
| 12 | Wood Community College, having spent eight years as president | ||||||
| 13 | and 36 years of service in higher education; and
| ||||||
| 14 | WHEREAS, Under President Elbe's leadership, John Wood | ||||||
| 15 | Community College has been recognized for its leadership | ||||||
| 16 | across a wide range of key student success areas, including | ||||||
| 17 | strategic focus for workforce innovation and training programs | ||||||
| 18 | with regional business leaders; and
| ||||||
| 19 | WHEREAS, Through President Elbe's guidance, John Wood | ||||||
| 20 | Community College has continued to adapt to the changing needs | ||||||
| 21 | of the community, opening a new agricultural sciences complex | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | and beginning a full expansion of the John Wood Community | ||||||
| 2 | College Development Center; and
| ||||||
| 3 | WHEREAS, President Elbe's steady leadership and fiscal | ||||||
| 4 | management have guided John Wood Community College through a | ||||||
| 5 | state budget crisis and a pandemic, allowing the institution | ||||||
| 6 | to maintain a balanced budget and a healthy fund balance | ||||||
| 7 | despite these challenges; and
| ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, In retirement, President Elbe and his wife, | ||||||
| 9 | Gerri, plan to travel as much as possible while continuing to | ||||||
| 10 | reside in Adams County and remain involved members of the | ||||||
| 11 | community; and
| ||||||
| 12 | WHEREAS, President Elbe has set John Wood Community | ||||||
| 13 | College on a trajectory of success; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 14 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 15 | HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 16 | we congratulate President Michael L. Elbe on his retirement | ||||||
| 17 | from John Wood Community College and wish him continued | ||||||
| 18 | success in the future; and be it further
| ||||||
| 19 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 20 | presented to President Elbe as an expression of our esteem and | ||||||
| 21 | respect.
