HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to honor the 10-year tenure of our esteemed colleague, Representative Sam Yingling, and thank him for his dedicated service to his community and our State; and

WHEREAS, Rep. Yingling was born and raised in Lake County, and he attended Carmel Catholic High School in Mundelein; he graduated from DePaul University in Chicago, where he studied Public Policy & Administration and Metropolitan Land Use (Urban Planning) and Political Science; and

WHEREAS, From a young age, Rep. Yingling learned the value of hard work by helping his grandparents and parents with the family-owned restaurant, which fostered his entrepreneurial spirit and led him to become a small business owner and a realtor; and

WHEREAS, Rep. Yingling has been dedicated to the Lake County community by serving as a board member of the immigrant resource center Mano a Mano, the former president of the Round Lake Chamber of Commerce, and a member of the Round Lake Beach Cultural and Civic Center Foundation; and

WHEREAS, Rep. Yingling has been a passionate public servant; he started his career in government as the supervisor of the Avon Township, a position he held from 2009 to 2013, during which he cut taxes for residents while protecting important services; and

WHEREAS, Rep. Yingling was elected to the Illinois House of Representatives in 2013, becoming the first openly LGBTQ+ member elected outside the City of Chicago; and

WHEREAS, Using his experience as a former township supervisor, Rep. Yingling served as the chairman of the Counties and Townships Committee and the Government Consolidation & Modernization Committee; he worked to reform local government to make it more transparent and taxpayer-friendly by consolidating redundant units of government and barring politicians from receiving multiple taxpayer-funded paychecks for the same job; and

WHEREAS, Rep. Yingling has been a leading voice in the efforts to reform Illinois' property tax system and bring financial relief to his constituents; he was the chairman of the Property Tax Relief Task Force and fought to make taxpayer-friendly reforms to the Lake County Assessor's Office; and

WHEREAS, Rep. Yingling has been a leader in the fight for marriage equality and an advocate for the LGBTQ+ community; he played a pivotal role in helping pass legislation legalizing gay marriage in Illinois; he also introduced and sponsored a number of bills to crack down on abusive conversion therapy; and

WHEREAS, Rep. Yingling has worked tirelessly to bring much-needed resources into his district; he regularly held resource fairs, Know Your Rights seminars, student financial aid workshops, and other events to help provide support to his constituents; and

WHEREAS, All who served alongside Rep. Yingling will miss his friendship and his commitment to serving his constituents and bettering the State for all of its citizens; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Representative Sam Yingling on his achievements, thank him for his years of dedication to serving the people of his district and the State of Illinois, and wish him the best in all of his future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Rep. Yingling as an expression of our esteem and respect.
