| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives wish to congratulate our colleague, State |
| 4 | | Representative and Assistant Minority Leader Deanne Marie |
| 5 | | Mazzochi, on her distinguished service to the people of the |
| 6 | | 47th District and the State of Illinois; and
|
| 7 | | WHEREAS, Rep. Mazzochi has faithfully served the citizens |
| 8 | | of the 47th District since assuming office in July 2018; and
|
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Rep. Mazzochi is a lifelong Illinois resident; |
| 10 | | she was born and raised in Villa Park and graduated from |
| 11 | | Willowbrook High School; she pursued degrees in Political |
| 12 | | Science and Chemistry at Boston University and then a law |
| 13 | | degree from George Washington University; she and her husband |
| 14 | | have raised their family in Elmhurst for more than 15 years; |
| 15 | | and |
| 16 | | WHEREAS, Rep. Mazzochi was a founding partner of her firm, |
| 17 | | specializing in life sciences law, particularly patent |
| 18 | | litigation in the medical and pharmaceutical arena so that |
| 19 | | cheaper, generic drugs can be made readily available to the |
| 20 | | public; and |
| 21 | | WHEREAS, While continuing her success in the private |

| 1 | | sector, Rep. Mazzochi entered the public arena out of concern |
| 2 | | for the ongoing corruption and bad governance she witnessed in |
| 3 | | her community and throughout Illinois; she served as a trustee |
| 4 | | of the College of DuPage Board of Trustees from April 2015 |
| 5 | | until she was elected chairman of the board in 2016; she |
| 6 | | spearheaded efforts to strengthen the relationships between |
| 7 | | the institution and the communities it serves, creating |
| 8 | | increased economic development partnerships and developing a |
| 9 | | wide array of vital academic opportunities; she supported |
| 10 | | efforts to reduce financial burdens to students and local |
| 11 | | taxpayers and championed tuition and fee cuts as well as |
| 12 | | property tax freezes with no impact on students and community |
| 13 | | services; and |
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Prior to Rep. Mazzochi's election as chairman, |
| 15 | | the College of DuPage was put on probation by the Higher |
| 16 | | Learning Commission over concerns about its integrity and |
| 17 | | governance; after her election, she immediately set to work on |
| 18 | | reevaluating the board and the college's administrative |
| 19 | | policies to promote transparency and right a dysfunctional |
| 20 | | ship; and |
| 21 | | WHEREAS, After resigning from the board to serve in the |
| 22 | | Illinois State Legislature, Rep. Mazzochi was praised and |
| 23 | | thanked by the president of the College of DuPage for her |
| 24 | | dedicated service and exemplary leadership during a difficult |

| 1 | | phase in the institution's history; and |
| 2 | | WHEREAS, While in office, Rep. Mazzochi brought her law |
| 3 | | and science background with her to Springfield, using those |
| 4 | | legal skills in her role as a fearless and passionate floor |
| 5 | | debate leader; while seeking effective and efficient |
| 6 | | government, she fought for legislative accountability and |
| 7 | | transparency, due process, public safety, education, and |
| 8 | | stronger ethics in Illinois; and |
| 9 | | WHEREAS, In recognition of her hard work and leadership, |
| 10 | | Rep. Mazzochi was appointed to numerous task forces, including |
| 11 | | the Property Tax Relief Task Force as co-chair and a Special |
| 12 | | Investigating Committee looking into corruption allegations |
| 13 | | against then-House Speaker Mike Madigan; she also served as |
| 14 | | Republican Spokesperson for the House Judiciary and Housing |
| 15 | | Committees and Assistant Minority Leader at the start of the |
| 16 | | 102nd General Assembly; and

| 17 | | WHEREAS, Rep. Mazzochi received numerous accolades for her |
| 18 | | work in Springfield, including Elected Official of the Year by |
| 19 | | Safe Suburbs USA, a Friend of Infrastructure by the |
| 20 | | Transportation for Illinois Coalition, Champion of Free |
| 21 | | Enterprise by the Illinois Chamber of Commerce, a Friend of |
| 22 | | Agriculture by the Illinois Farm Bureau, Champion of |
| 23 | | Manufacturing by the Illinois Manufacturers' Association, and |
|

| 1 | | Champion of Small and Mid-Size Manufacturers Award by the |
| 2 | | Technology and Manufacturing Association; and
|
| 3 | | WHEREAS, Rep. Mazzochi was always responsive to the needs |
| 4 | | and concerns of her district, especially in her work to curb |
| 5 | | the excesses of Sterigenics, corrupt red light cameras, and 5G |
| 6 | | tower proliferation; and
|
| 7 | | WHEREAS, While in office, Rep. Mazzochi and her staff |
| 8 | | determinedly sought to bring information and services to her |
| 9 | | constituents, hosting dozens of informative events, both |
| 10 | | online and in person during her tenure; therefore, be it
|
| 11 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE |
| 12 | | HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
| 13 | | we thank State Representative and Assistant Minority Leader |
| 14 | | Deanne Marie Mazzochi for her years of dedicated service to |
| 15 | | the 47th District and the State of Illinois; and be it further
|
| 16 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 17 | | presented to Rep. Mazzochi as an expression of our esteem and |
| 18 | | respect.
