HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to honor our esteemed former colleague, Representative John D'Amico, for serving as a member of the Illinois General Assembly for nearly 17 years and to thank him for his dedication to our State and his community; and

WHEREAS, Rep. D'Amico was born in Chicago; he graduated from St. Edward Elementary School and Weber High School in Chicago before attending Northeastern Illinois University; he joined the Chicago Water Department in 1982, and he currently serves as assistant superintendent; and

WHEREAS, Rep. D'Amico was first elected as a state representative in 2004 and served on several committees, including Aging, Appropriations–Public Safety, Labor, Elections & Campaign Reform, Electric Utility Oversight, Transportation & Motor Vehicles, Workers' Compensation and Unemployment, and the Committee of the Whole; and

WHEREAS, Rep. D'Amico remained committed to one of his top priorities while serving as the chairman of the Transportation: Vehicles & Safety Committee, driving safety for all Illinoisans; during his tenure, he was influential in passing several pieces of legislation that keep citizens safe every day, including legislation that created a graduated driver's license program for teens; additionally he passed legislation that required minors to complete a minimum of 50 practice hours behind the wheel in order to receive their driver's license and legislation that allowed the parents and/or guardians of minors to view a teenager's driving record online in an effort to keep our children safer on the roads; he also passed legislation to restrict cell phone use by teens while driving, to ban cell phone use in all school and construction zones, and to ban texting while driving; and

WHEREAS, Rep. D'Amico is also a member of the Edgebrook Community Association, the St. Edwards Athletic Advisory Committee, the City Club of Chicago, the Mayfair Lions Club, the Queen of All Saints Men's Club, and the Edgebrook Sauganash Athletic Association; and

WHEREAS, All who had the honor to serve with Rep. D'Amico will miss his friendship, kindness, professionalism, sincerity, and unwavering commitment to his community, the State of Illinois, and, most of all, his family, including his wife, Christine, and his three children; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate and thank Representative John D'Amico for his years of dedicated service to the Illinois General Assembly, the State of Illinois, and his community; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Rep. D'Amico as an expression of our esteem, respect, and best wishes.
