2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
3 | | represented in the General Assembly:
|
4 | | Section 5. The University of Illinois Hospital Act is |
5 | | amended by adding Section 8d as follows: |
6 | | (110 ILCS 330/8d new) |
7 | | Sec. 8d. Facility-provided medication upon discharge. |
8 | | (a) The General Assembly finds that this Section is |
9 | | necessary for the immediate preservation of the public peace, |
10 | | health, and safety. |
11 | | (b) In this Section, "facility-provided medication" has |
12 | | the same meaning as provided under Section 15.10 of the |
13 | | Pharmacy Practice Act. |
14 | | (c) When a facility-provided medication is ordered at |
15 | | least 24 hours in advance for surgical procedures and is |
16 | | administered to a patient at the University of Illinois |
17 | | Hospital, any unused portion of the facility-provided |
18 | | medication must be offered to the patient upon discharge when |
19 | | it is required for continuing treatment. |
20 | | (d) A facility-provided medication shall be labeled |
21 | | consistent with labeling requirements under Section 22 of the |
22 | | Pharmacy Practice Act. |
23 | | (e) If the facility-provided medication is used in an |

1 | | operating room or emergency department setting, the prescriber |
2 | | is responsible for counseling the patient on its proper use |
3 | | and administration and the requirement of pharmacist |
4 | | counseling is waived. |
5 | | Section 10. The Ambulatory Surgical Treatment Center Act |
6 | | is amended by adding Section 7d as follows: |

8 | | Sec. 7d. Facility-provided medication upon discharge. |
9 | | (a) The General Assembly finds that this Section is |
10 | | necessary for the immediate preservation of the public peace, |
11 | | health, and safety. |

14 | | Pharmacy Practice Act. |

4 | | Section 15. The Hospital Licensing Act is amended by |
5 | | adding Section 6.28 as follows: |

7 | | Sec. 6.28. Facility-provided medication upon discharge. |
8 | | (a) The General Assembly finds that this Section is |
9 | | necessary for the immediate preservation of the public peace, |
10 | | health, and safety. |
11 | | (b) In this Section, "facility-provided medication" has |
12 | | the same meaning as provided under Section 15.10 of the |
13 | | Pharmacy Practice Act. |
14 | | (c) When a facility-provided medication is ordered at |

16 | | administered to a patient at a hospital licensed under this |
17 | | Act, any unused portion of the facility-provided medication |
18 | | must be offered to the patient upon discharge when it is |

21 | | consistent with labeling requirements under Section 22 of the |
22 | | Pharmacy Practice Act. |
23 | | (e) If the facility-provided medication is used in an |

5 | | Section 15.10 as follows: |

8 | | (a) The General Assembly finds that this Section is |
9 | | necessary for the immediate preservation of the public peace, |
10 | | health, and safety. |
11 | | (b) In this Section, "facility-provided medication" means |
12 | | any topical antibiotic, anti-inflammatory, dilation, or |
13 | | glaucoma drop or ointment. |
14 | | (c) When a facility-provided medication is ordered at |
15 | | least 24 hours in advance for a surgical procedure and is |
16 | | administered to a patient at the facility, any unused portion |
17 | | of the facility-provided medication must be offered to the |
18 | | patient upon discharge when it is required for continuing |
19 | | treatment. |
20 | | (d) A facility-provided medication shall be labeled |
21 | | consistent with labeling requirements under Section 22. |
