AMENDMENT TO SENATE BILL 677




2    AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend Senate Bill 677 by replacing 
3everything after the enacting clause with the following:

 
 
4    "Section 5. The Medical Practice Act of 1987 is amended  by 
5adding Section 20.1 as follows:
 
6    (225 ILCS 60/20.1 new)
7    Sec. 20.1. Continuing education; cognitive impairments. 
8Persons licensed to practice medicine in all of its branches 
9under this Act shall complete 3 hours of continuing medical 
10education per pre-renewal period on the diagnosis, treatment, 
11and care of individuals with cognitive impairments, including, 
12but not limited to, Alzheimer's disease and other dementias. 
13This requirement shall only apply to persons licensed under 
14this Act who serve adult populations and have direct patient 
15interactions in their capacity as physicians. The curriculum 
16used for the training shall cover the following topics:

1diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease and other dementias, 
2including recognizing the signs and symptoms of dementia; 
3person-centered care; assessment and care planning; and 
4culturally competent health care, as defined in subsection (b) 
5of Section 2310-216 of the Department of Public Health Powers 
6and Duties Law of the Civil Administrative Code of Illinois.
7    The Department may adopt any rules necessary to implement 
8this Section.".
