Amends the Department of Transportation Law of the Civil Administrative Code of Illinois. Provides that the Department of Transportation shall conduct a study of rural intersections that shall identify areas of significant safety concern. Provides that the Department shall publish the study by December 31, 2021 and shall make specific recommendations for policy changes to address the identified dangerous areas. Effective immediately.

1 | | AN ACT concerning transportation.
|
2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
3 | | represented in the General Assembly:
|
4 | | Section 5. The Department of Transportation Law of the
|
5 | | Civil Administrative Code of Illinois is amended by adding |
6 | | Section 2705-620 as follows: |
7 | | (20 ILCS 2705/2705-620 new) |
8 | | Sec. 2705-620. Rural intersection safety study. The |
9 | | Department shall conduct a study of rural intersections that |
10 | | shall identify areas of significant safety concern. The study |
11 | | shall seek input, from the highway engineer, township road |
12 | | commissioner or authority, and sheriff for each county or |
13 | | township, for a list of concerning intersections along each |
14 | | local, county, or State road. The Department shall publish the |
15 | | study by December 31, 2021 and shall make specific |
16 | | recommendations for policy changes to address the identified |
17 | | dangerous areas.

18 | | Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon |
19 | | becoming law.
