Amends the Children with Disabilities Article of the School Code. Beginning with the 2023-2024 school year, requires a school district to provide informational material about the Achieving a Better Life Experience (ABLE) account program to the parent or guardian of a student at the student's annual individualized education program review meeting. Requires the Office of the State Treasurer to prepare and deliver the informational material to the State Board of Education, and provides that the State Board of Education shall distribute the informational material to school districts. Effective immediately.

2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
3 | | represented in the General Assembly:
|
4 | | Section 5. The School Code is amended by adding Section |
5 | | 14-8.02i as follows: |
6 | | (105 ILCS 5/14-8.02i new) |
7 | | Sec. 14-8.02i. ABLE account program information. Beginning |
8 | | with the 2023-2024 school year, a school district shall |
9 | | provide informational material about the Achieving a Better |
10 | | Life Experience (ABLE) account program established under |
11 | | Section 16.6 of the State Treasurer Act to the parent or |
12 | | guardian of a student at the student's annual individualized |
13 | | education program (IEP) review meeting, whether the annual |
14 | | review meeting is held in person, convened remotely, or |
15 | | convened in any other manner. The Office of the State |
16 | | Treasurer shall prepare and deliver the informational material |
17 | | to the State Board of Education, and the State Board of |
18 | | Education shall distribute the informational material to |
19 | | school districts. |
20 | | A school may transmit the informational material to a |
21 | | parent or guardian in the same manner as other documents and |
22 | | information related to an IEP meeting are provided to the |
23 | | parent or guardian.
