| 1 | | AN ACT concerning education.

| 2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
| 3 | | represented in the General Assembly:
|
| 4 | | Section 5. The School Code is amended by adding Section |
| 5 | | 2-3.195 as follows:
|
| 6 | | (105 ILCS 5/2-3.195 new) |
| 7 | | Sec. 2-3.195. Direct support professional training |
| 8 | | program. Beginning with the 2025-2026 school year and |
| 9 | | continuing for not less than 2 years, the State Board of |
| 10 | | Education shall make available a model program of study that |
| 11 | | incorporates the training and experience necessary to serve as |
| 12 | | a direct support professional. By July 1, 2023, the State |
| 13 | | Board shall submit recommendations developed in consultation |
| 14 | | with stakeholders, including, but not limited to, |
| 15 | | organizations representing community-based providers serving |
| 16 | | children and adults with intellectual or developmental |
| 17 | | disabilities, and education practitioners, including, but not |
| 18 | | limited to, teachers, administrators, special education |
| 19 | | directors, and regional superintendents of schools, to the |
| 20 | | Department of Human Services for the training that would be |
| 21 | | required in order to be complete the model program of study.
