| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened |
| 3 | | to learn of the death of Jesse J. Perez, who passed away on |
| 4 | | November 27, 2020; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Jesse Perez was born in Moline to Jose and |
| 6 | | Francisca (Cervantes) Perez on August 6, 1924; he served in |
| 7 | | the U.S. Navy for 20 years and earned the rank of chief petty |
| 8 | | officer; during his military service, he married Reiko Ida in |
| 9 | | Sasebo, Nagasaki, Japan, and she preceded him in death in |
| 10 | | February 2006; and
|
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Upon retiring from the U.S. Navy, Jesse Perez |
| 12 | | began his career at the Rock Island Arsenal and worked there |
| 13 | | for 30 years; and
|
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Jesse Perez was known for his generous heart, for |
| 15 | | sharing his wisdom, and for being an advocate for civil and |
| 16 | | humanitarian rights; he belonged to the American G.I. Forum, |
| 17 | | which is dedicated to addressing problems of discrimination |
| 18 | | and inequities endured by Hispanic veterans; he was a member |
| 19 | | of numerous community organizations, but he was especially |
| 20 | | committed to the Floreciente neighborhood; his love for the |
| 21 | | community was only surpassed by his love for family, |
| 22 | | especially his grandsons; he will be remembered for |
