SENATE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened 
3to learn of the death of Merlin S. "Swanee" Swanson of Rock 
4Island, who passed away on January 30, 2021; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, Merlin Swanson was born in Creston, Iowa on April 
610, 1925; he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War; he 
7married Marilyn Downs, and they enjoyed 67 years together; and
  
 
8    WHEREAS, Merlin Swanson worked at and retired  as a general 
9foreman of final assembly from the Rock Island Arsenal; he 
10also performed work at the Rock Island Christian Care Center; 
11and
  
 
12    WHEREAS, Merlin Swanson was an active member of Salem 
13Lutheran Church in Moline and a long term active member of the 
14Christian Motorcyclists Association; and
  
 
15    WHEREAS, Merlin Swanson traveled and won accolades as an 
16inspirational speaker and as a member of the Quad Cities 
17Toastmasters; and
  
 
18    WHEREAS, Merlin Swanson was preceded in death by his 
19sisters, Ruth Swanson and Irene Gross, and his brothers, E. 
20Allen and Dean Swanson; and

1    WHEREAS, Merlin Swanson is survived by his wife, Marilyn; 
2his nephew, David (Judy); his great-nephew, Scott; his 
3great-nieces, Katrina and Jennifer; his great-great-nephew, 
4Graham; and his great-great-niece, Marissa; therefore, be it
  
 
5    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL 
6ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of 
7Merlin S. "Swanee" Swanson and extend our sincere condolences 
8to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be 
9it further
  
 
10    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
11presented to the family of Merlin Swanson as an expression of 
12our deepest sympathy.
