2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
3 | to learn of the loss of Otis "Otie" Glen Ruff of rural | ||||||
4 | Streator, who passed away on January 25, 2021; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Otie Ruff was born to Glenn and Bernice (Tinges) | ||||||
6 | Ruff in rural Fairbury on October 20, 1933; he attended the | ||||||
7 | Cornell Grade School and High School and graduated from Long | ||||||
8 | Point High School in 1951; he served in the U.S. Army during | ||||||
9 | the Korean Conflict; he married Marian Vissering on November | ||||||
10 | 29, 1996; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Otie Ruff farmed all his life in the Long Point | ||||||
12 | area and on the Wisconsin state line; he, along with his | ||||||
13 | brothers, started Long Point Grain elevator in 1957; later | ||||||
14 | known as Ruff Brothers Grain, the business now serves 15 | ||||||
15 | central Illinois communities; and
| ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, Otie Ruff was a member of the Long Point United | ||||||
17 | Methodist Church and the Long Point American Legion; and
| ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, Otie Ruff had a passion for horses; the Ruff | ||||||
19 | Riders pony and draft horse hitches were staples at many | ||||||
20 | central Illinois horse shows and parades; and

1 | WHEREAS, Otie Russ was preceded in death by his parents | ||||||
2 | and his brother, Dean Ruff; and
| ||||||
3 | WHEREAS, Otie Ruff is survived by his wife; his daughters, | ||||||
4 | Cindy (Kevin) Bertsche, Mary Beth (Virl) Voights, and Barbara | ||||||
5 | Ruff; his son, Mark Ruff; his grandchildren, Tim (Mandy) | ||||||
6 | Hogan, Abby (Bick) Hall, Jared (Joelle) Bertsche, Grace and | ||||||
7 | Glen Ruff, and Kyle Voights; his five great-grandchildren; his | ||||||
8 | brothers, Jerry (Janice) Ruff and Keith (JoAnn) Ruff; his | ||||||
9 | sisters-in-law, Arlene (John) Martin and Judy (Jeff) Wahls; | ||||||
10 | and his many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
| ||||||
11 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL | ||||||
12 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
13 | Otis "Otie" Glen Ruff and extend our sincere condolences to | ||||||
14 | his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
15 | further

16 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
17 | presented to the family of Otie Ruff as an expression of our | ||||||
18 | deepest sympathy.
