| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened |
| 3 | | to learn of the death of Harvey "Junior" Michael Smith Jr. of |
| 4 | | Chicago, who passed away on February 1, 2021; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Harvey Smith was born to Harvey and Mary Smith in |
| 6 | | Chicago on March 1, 1960; as a child, he attended St. Mel |
| 7 | | Catholic Church, where he committed to his faith; as a |
| 8 | | teenager, he joined Young Life Ministry and traveled to |
| 9 | | various states for outreach activities; as a young adult, he |
| 10 | | attended Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church; later in life, he |
| 11 | | recommitted to his faith; he attended Delano Elementary School |
| 12 | | and Lawrence Upper Grade Center and graduated from Orr Academy |
| 13 | | High School; and
|
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Harvey Smith had many gifts and talents; he was |
| 15 | | known as the walking calculator because he could do |
| 16 | | mathematical computations quickly in his head; he enjoyed |
| 17 | | food, music, dancing, watching Jeopardy, watching basketball |
| 18 | | and football, and playing cards; he had a beautiful smile and a |
| 19 | | compliment for every woman he met; he loved spending time with |
| 20 | | his family and his second family, the Roseberry; and
|
| 21 | | WHEREAS, Harvey Smith was preceded in death by his father, |
| 22 | | Harvey G. Smith; his stepfather, Hearest Cathey; his paternal |
