SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Ora "Corky" Weldon Aten of Winston, Missouri, formerly of Silvis, who passed away on February 20, 2021; and

WHEREAS, Ora Aten was born to Hiram and Pearl (Marner) Aten in Swan Creek on January 16, 1923; he married Vivian Bel on December 31, 1945; he served in the U.S. Navy in both World War II and Korea; and

WHEREAS, After retiring from the Rock Island Lines, Ora Aten became a locomotive consultant and worked for Iowa Interstate Railroad; and

WHEREAS, Ora Aten was a member of Silvis Lodge #898, AF & AM, and Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Moline; and

WHEREAS, Ora Aten enjoyed reunions with shipmates from the USS Guadalupe and loved his farm in Missouri; and

WHEREAS, Ora Aten was preceded in death by his wife; his son-in-law, John Hanley; and his five siblings; and

WHEREAS, Ora Aten is survived by his six children and their spouses, Georgia and David Baraks, Jeffrey and Patty Aten, Bill and Grace Aten, Don and Carolyn Aten, Jennifer Hanley, and Marian and Patrick Collison; his 15 grandchildren and their spouses, Jana Baraks, Jyll and Matt Moore, Quinn and Lindsay Hanley, Erin Hanley, Brice Hanley, Michael and Samantha Collison, Jessi and Dustin Cassler, Matthew Collison, Derek Aten, Darci Aten, Shayla Aten, Kiki Aten, Ian Aten, Kevin and Jennifer Aten, and Alivia and Dean Grace; and his 24 great-grandchildren; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Ora "Corky" Weldon Aten and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Ora Aten as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
