SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Lewis John Olson of Silvis, who passed away on March 2, 2021; and

WHEREAS, Lewis Olson was born in Sublette to John and Hannah (Englund) Olson on August 26, 1921; he resided in Zearing, Kasbeer, and Princeton in Bureau County for 83 years of his life; he served in the U.S. Army in the 25th Division and received two bronze stars; he spent the first of his 17-months overseas in the Philippines before the Occupation Forces arrived in Japan; he married Mary Cass at the Dover Congregational Church on June 12, 1949, and she preceded him in death on August 30, 2012; and

WHEREAS, Lewis Olson worked in the grain elevator business for 35 years; he began as the one-man operator of Arlington Grain Co.'s Zearing branch for 5 years; he served as manager of the Kasbeer Farmer's Elevator from 1951 to 1960 and the Putnam Grain Co. from 1960 to 1967; he bought a small farm west of Lena and worked at Lena Builders from 1967 to 1969; he returned as manager of the Kasbeer Elevator, where he worked from 1969 to 1983; after retiring from the elevator business, he was self-employed with his son for 3 years; during his last 3 working years, he was a delivery route driver for Princeton's Crescent Electric; and

WHEREAS, Lewis Olson was a longtime member of the First Methodist Church in Princeton; he was a 24-year member of the Metro-Center, where he walked regularly; he played in softball and bowling leagues in his younger years, enjoyed pitching horseshoes, and never grew tired of going to auctions; he loved his family and spending time with them; and

WHEREAS, Lewis Olson was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years; his parents; his daughter, Sue C. Brummett; his grandson, Justin Brummett; and his sister, Florence (Robert) Standley; and

WHEREAS, Lewis Olson is survived by his son, Kent Olson; his grandchildren, Chad Brummett and Aimee Brummett; his six great-grandchildren; and his nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Lewis John Olson and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Lewis Olson as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
