| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened |
| 3 | | to learn of the death of Lewis John Olson of Silvis, who passed |
| 4 | | away on March 2, 2021; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Lewis Olson was born in Sublette to John and |
| 6 | | Hannah (Englund) Olson on August 26, 1921; he resided in |
| 7 | | Zearing, Kasbeer, and Princeton in Bureau County for 83 years |
| 8 | | of his life; he served in the U.S. Army in the 25th Division |
| 9 | | and received two bronze stars; he spent the first of his |
| 10 | | 17-months overseas in the Philippines before the Occupation |
| 11 | | Forces arrived in Japan; he married Mary Cass at the Dover |
| 12 | | Congregational Church on June 12, 1949, and she preceded him |
| 13 | | in death on August 30, 2012; and
|
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Lewis Olson worked in the grain elevator business |
| 15 | | for 35 years; he began as the one-man operator of Arlington |
| 16 | | Grain Co.'s Zearing branch for 5 years; he served as manager of |
| 17 | | the Kasbeer Farmer's Elevator from 1951 to 1960 and the Putnam |
| 18 | | Grain Co. from 1960 to 1967; he bought a small farm west of |
| 19 | | Lena and worked at Lena Builders from 1967 to 1969; he returned |
| 20 | | as manager of the Kasbeer Elevator, where he worked from 1969 |
| 21 | | to 1983; after retiring from the elevator business, he was |
| 22 | | self-employed with his son for 3 years; during his last 3 |
| 23 | | working years, he was a delivery route driver for Princeton's |
