| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
| 3 | to learn of the death of Buff Carmichael II of Springfield, who | ||||||
| 4 | passed away on March 21, 2021; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Buff Carmichael was born to Buff and Leona | ||||||
| 6 | Beatrice (Falkner) Carmichael in Waco, Texas on July 2, 1947; | ||||||
| 7 | he graduated from the Dallas Institute of Funeral Service; he | ||||||
| 8 | married Jerry Dean Bowman in Clinton on September 20, 2014; | ||||||
| 9 | and
| ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, Buff Carmichael first worked as a funeral | ||||||
| 11 | director and embalmer in Texas; after moving to Springfield, | ||||||
| 12 | he worked for the State of Illinois with the EMS and the | ||||||
| 13 | Department of Nuclear Safety; and
| ||||||
| 14 | WHEREAS, Buff Carmichael was the founder and a member of | ||||||
| 15 | the Coalition of Rainbow Alliances (CORAL) and was | ||||||
| 16 | instrumental in creating the AIDS Memorial at Lincoln Park; he | ||||||
| 17 | was a board member and volunteer at the Fifth Street | ||||||
| 18 | Renaissance SARA Center, a volunteer for Gay & Lesbian | ||||||
| 19 | Advocates & Defenders (GLAD), and a huge supporter of Parents, | ||||||
| 20 | Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG); he was also | ||||||
| 21 | a local chapter board member of the American Civil Liberties | ||||||
| 22 | Union (ACLU), a volunteer and youth mentor at the Phoenix | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | Center, a volunteer at the Abraham Lincoln Museum, and a | ||||||
| 2 | member of the Abraham Lincoln Unitarian Universalist | ||||||
| 3 | Congregation; he and his husband created the Prairie Frame | ||||||
| 4 | newspaper, which they coordinated for 12 years; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Buff Carmichael loved camping and sharing stories | ||||||
| 6 | with anyone who would listen; and
| ||||||
| 7 | WHEREAS, Buff Carmichael was preceded in death by his | ||||||
| 8 | parents; his husband; and his sisters, Carol Carlsen and Nada | ||||||
| 9 | Bell; and
| ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, Buff Carmichael is survived by his children, Trey | ||||||
| 11 | Carmichael, Janna Doyle, Erin Agee, and James Hunter | ||||||
| 12 | Carmichael; his numerous grandchildren; his sister, Judy | ||||||
| 13 | Lohmann; and his many nieces, nephews, and cousins; therefore, | ||||||
| 14 | be it

| 15 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL | ||||||
| 16 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
| 17 | Buff Carmichael II and extend our sincere condolences to his | ||||||
| 18 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
| 19 | further
| ||||||
| 20 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 21 | presented to the family of Buff Carmichael as an expression of | ||||||
