| 1 | SENATE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
| 3 | to learn of the death of Lorraine Wirges of Rantoul, who passed | ||||||
| 4 | away on April 3, 2021; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Lorraine Wirges was born to Luther and Maggie | ||||||
| 6 | (Thompson) Potteiger in Columbus, Nebraska on June 17, 1923; | ||||||
| 7 | she graduated from Fullerton High School in May of 1940; she | ||||||
| 8 | married Leonard Wirges at St. Peter's Catholic Church in | ||||||
| 9 | Fullerton on November 6, 1947; and
| ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, During the Korean War, Lorraine Wirges was | ||||||
| 11 | employed by the U.S. Army; the family moved to Rantoul in | ||||||
| 12 | October of 1959 where both she and her husband where employed | ||||||
| 13 | and retired from the UASF at Chanute Air Force Base; and
| ||||||
| 14 | WHEREAS, Lorraine Wirges was always active in the | ||||||
| 15 | community; she was a member of the Rantoul Garden Club at local | ||||||
| 16 | and state levels, a member of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority, and | ||||||
| 17 | a life member of the VFW Auxiliary and the American Legion | ||||||
| 18 | Auxiliary; she and her husband were active in getting several | ||||||
| 19 | Blue Star Markers at various locations, designed to honor | ||||||
| 20 | those serving in the military, including Illinois' 100th | ||||||
| 21 | marker at Maplewood Cemetery in Rantoul; they were also | ||||||
| 22 | primary contributors to the local community's annual Arbor Day | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | celebration, planting at least one new tree each year and | ||||||
| 2 | getting Rantoul designated a Tree City USA each year by the | ||||||
| 3 | Arbor Day Society; she was most dedicated to St. Malachy | ||||||
| 4 | Catholic Church, where she served many years as the greeter at | ||||||
| 5 | funerals and as lector; she also was on the Tree Committee, | ||||||
| 6 | Rantoul; and
| ||||||
| 7 | WHEREAS, In her younger years, Lorraine Wirges liked skeet | ||||||
| 8 | shooting; she was an outdoor person, a beekeeper, a gardener, | ||||||
| 9 | and an animal lover; she enjoyed horseback riding and playing | ||||||
| 10 | bridge; she and her husband were natural dancers and enjoyed | ||||||
| 11 | attending a Valentine's Day dance in the community each year; | ||||||
| 12 | she will be remembered as an amazing woman; and | ||||||
| 13 | WHEREAS, Lorraine Wirges was preceded in death by her son, | ||||||
| 14 | Paul; and
| ||||||
| 15 | WHEREAS, Lorraine Wirges is survived by her husband; her | ||||||
| 16 | daughter, Victoria Jeakins; her son, David (Orquidea); her | ||||||
| 17 | five grandchildren; her ten great-grandchildren; and her two | ||||||
| 18 | great-great-grandchildren; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 19 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL | ||||||
| 20 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
| 21 | Lorraine Wirges and extend our sincere condolences to her | ||||||
| 22 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it | ||||||

| 2 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 3 | presented to the family of Lorraine Wirges as an expression of | ||||||
| 4 | our deepest sympathy.
