| 2 | | WHEREAS, Larry Dietz is retiring as the 19th president of |
| 3 | | Illinois State University (ISU), a position he assumed on |
| 4 | | March 22, 2014; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, During the tenure of President Larry Dietz, ISU |
| 6 | | has seen record enrollment, including increases in enrollment |
| 7 | | of students from underrepresented groups, while maintaining |
| 8 | | high academic quality; and |
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Illinois State University continues to be ranked |
| 10 | | among the top universities in the United States, recognized |
| 11 | | for its strong retention rate, top 10 percent graduation rate, |
| 12 | | and very low student loan default rate; it has achieved record |
| 13 | | fundraising in recent years and initiated its second |
| 14 | | comprehensive campaign, Redbirds Rising: The Campaign for |
| 15 | | Illinois State University; and
|
| 16 | | WHEREAS, Despite difficult economic times in Illinois, |
| 17 | | Illinois State University has remained strong and stable under |
| 18 | | Larry Dietz's leadership and is making plans to reach new |
| 19 | | heights in the future; and
|
| 20 | | WHEREAS, Larry Dietz came to Illinois State University in |
| 21 | | June of 2011 as vice president for Student Affairs and as a |
|

| 1 | | tenured associate professor in the Department of Educational |
| 2 | | Administration and Foundations; previously, he served as vice |
| 3 | | chancellor for Student Affairs at Southern Illinois University |
| 4 | | Carbondale for ten years; he also served as special assistant |
| 5 | | to the chancellor at SIUC and as a tenured associate professor |
| 6 | | in educational administration and higher education; prior to |
| 7 | | his tenure there, he served as vice chancellor for Student |
| 8 | | Affairs and Enrollment Management, among other leadership |
| 9 | | positions, at the University of Missouri-Kansas City and in |
| 10 | | leadership positions at Iowa State University; and
|
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Larry Dietz earned a Ph.D. in higher education |
| 12 | | administration and a master's degree in higher education and |
| 13 | | student personnel from Iowa State University; he has a |
| 14 | | bachelor's degree in political science from Southern Illinois |
| 15 | | University; he attended the Institute for Educational |
| 16 | | Management at Harvard University, a Fulbright International |
| 17 | | Education Seminar for Administrators in Germany, and the |
| 18 | | Harvard Management Development Program; and
|
| 19 | | WHEREAS, A strong supporter of global education, Larry |
| 20 | | Dietz has implemented plans to enhance diversity, support |
| 21 | | global learning, and create a global campus environment at |
| 22 | | Illinois State University; his international experiences |
| 23 | | include representing the American Universities Iraq Consortium |
| 24 | | on a panel with Prime Minister Al-Malaki and representing SIUC |

| 1 | | at the Iraq Education Initiative in Baghdad; in addition, he |
| 2 | | had responsibility for SIUC's campus in Japan and has |
| 3 | | negotiated agreements with institutions in China, Malaysia, |
| 4 | | Kuwait, Germany, and the Czech Republic; therefore, be it
|
| 5 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL |
| 6 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we declare June 30, |
| 7 | | 2021 to be Larry Dietz Commemoration Day to commemorate Larry |
| 8 | | Dietz on his years of service and to wish him the best in |
| 9 | | retirement; and be it further
|
| 10 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be presented to |
| 11 | | Larry Dietz as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
