|
| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened |
| 3 | | to learn of the death of Officer Christopher "Chris" Oberheim |
| 4 | | of Monticello, who passed away on May 19, 2021; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Officer Oberheim was born in Decatur on October |
| 6 | | 31, 1976; and
|
| 7 | | WHEREAS, Officer Oberheim began his career in law |
| 8 | | enforcement at the Decatur Police Department in 2000, where he |
| 9 | | quickly became a respected officer who led by quiet example |
| 10 | | and maintained a sense of humility even when receiving |
| 11 | | recognition for his heroic actions; he always looked forward |
| 12 | | to playing in the annual PBPA State Softball Tournament and |
| 13 | | making memories with his fellow officers, whose friendships he |
| 14 | | treasured; and
|
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Officer Oberheim transferred to the Champaign |
| 16 | | Police Department in 2008, where he continued to protect and |
| 17 | | serve his community; during his tenure, he received two Medals |
| 18 | | of Valor for his courageous acts of selfless bravery; and
|
| 19 | | WHEREAS, Officer Oberheim dedicated a great deal of his |
| 20 | | time off-duty to coaching several successful girls' softball |
| 21 | | teams; his influence on the field was felt by many who loved |
|

| 1 | | and respected him; and
|
| 2 | | WHEREAS, Officer Oberheim was not only a police officer |
| 3 | | but also a son, brother, husband, father, beloved coach, |
| 4 | | trusted friend, and respected leader; he valued his family as |
| 5 | | his first priority, and his four daughters were his absolute |
| 6 | | pride and joy; he will be remembered for being a devoted public |
| 7 | | servant, a family tradition further continued by his younger |
| 8 | | brother and his cousin who both serve as Decatur Police |
| 9 | | officers; and
|
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Officer Oberheim was preceded in death by his |
| 11 | | sister, LeighAnn, and his grandfather, Neil Ganley; and
|
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Officer Oberheim is survived by his wife, Amber; |
| 13 | | his daughters, Hannah, Avery, Addison, and Aubree; his |
| 14 | | parents, Ted and Mary Ann Oberheim; his siblings, Greg |
| 15 | | (Michelle), Amy, Matt (Jennifer), Joe (Chelsea), and Sarah |
| 16 | | (Jason); his in-laws; and his nieces and nephews; therefore, |
| 17 | | be it

| 18 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL |
| 19 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
| 20 | | Officer Christopher "Chris" Oberheim and extend our sincere |
| 21 | | condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved |
| 22 | | him; and be it further
