SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Abbie C. (Hoffman) Weisberg, who passed away on April 26, 2021; and

WHEREAS, Abbie Weisberg was born on March 10, 1964; she earned her master's degree in Not for Profit Management from the Spertus Institute for Jewish Learning and Leadership in Chicago; and

WHEREAS, Abbie Weisberg was the retired CEO of Keshet, an organization that serves over 1,000 people with disabilities in the Chicago area while consulting with dozens of social service agencies around the country; she worked with Keshet for over 30 years and previously served the organization as a teacher, program director, and executive director; and

WHEREAS, Abbie Weisberg was the founder of I Belong, a nonprofit organization dedicated to employing people with intellectual/developmental disabilities (i/dd) while embracing the Jewish values of community, kindness, responsibility, respect, and tikkun olam (repairing the world); and

WHEREAS, Abbie Weisberg was an internationally recognized speaker and expert on disabilities and inclusion; and

WHEREAS, Abbie Weisberg was a former board member of Moishe House; she was noted as a Woman to Watch by Jewish Women International in 2012; and

WHEREAS, Abbie Weisberg was the wife of Dr. Mitchell Weisberg; the mother of Zoie (Josh) Berman, Shayna Weisberg, and Sophia (Elan) Yudkowsky; the grandmother of Archie Jasper Berman; and the sister of Michael (Susan) Hoffman, Laurie (Lonnie) Ungerhoff, and Debbie (Randall) Gelb; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Abbie C. (Hoffman) Weisberg and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Abbie Weisberg as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
