| 2 | | WHEREAS, Whereas, the Covid-19 virus has wreaked havoc |
| 3 | | across Illinois, and decisions made in response to this crisis |
| 4 | | have unduly jeopardized the employment status of thousands, |
| 5 | | left our State’s children unable to attend school, and |
| 6 | | decimated our local economies, causing untold negative impacts |
| 7 | | in the lives of all residents, including women; and
|
| 8 | | WHEREAS, 35 million mothers are part of the United States' |
| 9 | | workforce; and
|
| 10 | | WHEREAS, 58% of high risk occupations are comprised of |
| 11 | | women; these occupations include teachers, nurses, and |
| 12 | | doctors; and |
| 13 | | WHEREAS, In the beginning of 2020, before the pandemic |
| 14 | | struck, women constituted 50.04% of the workforce in the |
| 15 | | United States; and |
| 16 | | WHEREAS, Women in Illinois own 417,000 firms and |
| 17 | | companies; and
|
| 18 | | WHEREAS, Women bear a disproportionate burden of household |
| 19 | | and childcare tasks; mothers are more likely than fathers to |
| 20 | | spend an extra 20 hours per week on housework and child care |
