SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Benedict "Ben" Dwyer of Peoria, who passed away on May 26, 2021; and

WHEREAS, Ben Dwyer was born in Peoria to Warren Dwyer and Rose (Pomponio) Dwyer on February 1, 1953; he attended Peoria High School, the University of Illinois, and Bradley University; and

WHEREAS, Ben Dwyer was a cameraman journalist at WMBD-TV for almost 40 years; as a journalist, he particularly liked covering organic farming, wildlife, nature, and art; he was known for producing video essays on the seasons in Central Illinois that were evocative and heartfelt; and

WHEREAS, Ben Dwyer was known for his creativity, unsurpassed humor, and singular style, which were commemorated by countless tapes, CDs, letters, and homemade cards he sent to friends throughout the years; he was passionate about photography, music, and drawing from an early age and deeply appreciated music of all genres; he was a lifelong vegetarian, an exceptional gardener of both vegetables and perennials, and an accomplished cook and bread baker; he enjoyed giving gifts, especially from his extraordinary garden; he loved cats; he will be remembered in the hearts of many; and

WHEREAS, Ben Dwyer was preceded in death by his parents and his twin sister, Deirdre (Dwyer) Dodd; and

WHEREAS, Ben Dwyer is survived by his nieces, Anne Elizabeth Glassgow (and William) and Darcy Dodd; his great-nephew and great-nieces, Mark, Sophia, and Mia; and his many friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Benedict "Ben" Dwyer and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Ben Dwyer as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
