SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Rev. Louis A. Barnes of Pembroke Township, who passed away on June 5, 2021; and

WHEREAS, Rev. Barnes was born in Thomastown, Mississippi to Willie and Ella Mae (Mitchell) Barnes on November 29, 1930; he served in the U.S. Army as a private during the Korean War; and

WHEREAS, Rev. Barnes was the pastor at St. Anne Woods Community Chapel in Pembroke Township; he was a resident of the Pembroke Township area for 46 years and had been a pastor for more than 46 years; he was also a trustee for the Village of Hopkins Park; and

WHEREAS, Rev. Barnes was a member of NABVETS 0084 Pembroke Township Chapter; his hobbies included singing, playing guitar, listening to Jazz music, and spending time with family and church members and members of his community; and

WHEREAS, Rev. Barnes was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita Barnes; his son, Cleophus Barnes; one granddaughter; and seven siblings; and

WHEREAS, Rev. Barnes is survived by his daughters, Ruebena Parnell, Vanessa (Tommie) Goss, and Yolanda Barnes; his sister, Warden Stokes; his brothers, Marcus, Robert (Fannie), and Lester (Essie) Barnes; 11 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Rev. Louis A. Barnes and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Rev. Barnes as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
