|
| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened |
| 3 | | to learn of the death of Aaron Odom, who passed away on June |
| 4 | | 15, 2021; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Aaron Odom was born in Tunica, Mississippi to |
| 6 | | Leon and Ellen Odom on June 26, 1954; as a child, he was known |
| 7 | | for his exceptional academic aptitude and excelled in both |
| 8 | | math and science; he attended Penn Elementary School and |
| 9 | | Farragut High School; he was a star athlete throughout his |
| 10 | | high school and college careers; and
|
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Aaron Odom was called into the ministry in the |
| 12 | | late 1980s; he was ordained as an elder under the leadership of |
| 13 | | the late Bishop William Haven Bonner of the Illinois Sixth |
| 14 | | Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction in 2004; he was concerned and |
| 15 | | passionate about sharing the gospel; he was known for always |
| 16 | | offering an immediate prayer when requested and for being an |
| 17 | | eloquent orator; as an associate minister, he consistently |
| 18 | | taught Bible study and preached Sunday morning service at The |
| 19 | | Potter's House Christian Church; and
|
| 20 | | WHEREAS, Aaron Odom was known for his sense of humor, |
| 21 | | quick wit, wisdom, intellect, faith, and love for his family; |
| 22 | | he was passionate about sports throughout his life, and he |
|

| 1 | | coached his children and grandchildren in their athletic |
| 2 | | endeavors; he facilitated family Bible studies and prayer |
| 3 | | circles on a regular basis; he called his family every day to |
| 4 | | check in, pray, and offer support, comfort, mentorship, and |
| 5 | | motivation; he was devoted to building a future for his |
| 6 | | family; and
|
| 7 | | WHEREAS, Aaron Odom was preceded in death by his mother, |
| 8 | | Ellen Odom, and his granddaughter, Abigail Davis; and
|
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Aaron Odom is survived by his father, Leon (Lucy) |
| 10 | | Odom; his sisters, Katherine (Jerry) Newsome and Lendora |
| 11 | | Daniels; his lifelong companion, Sharon (Jones) Odom; his |
| 12 | | daughters, Tamela Odom, Michelle Odom, Karen Odom, and |
| 13 | | Laquania Odom-Davis (Peter); his sons, Ivan Odom and Kyle |
| 14 | | Odom; his grandchildren, Kimani Mobley, Joshua Benford, |
| 15 | | Brielle Simone Odom, Peter Davis Jr., and Alexis Davis; and a |
| 16 | | host of relatives, friends, and church family; therefore, be |
| 17 | | it
|
| 18 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL |
| 19 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
| 20 | | Aaron Odom and extend our sincere condolences to his family, |
| 21 | | friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further
