| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
| 3 | to learn of the death of Jeff Lair of Jacksonville, who passed | ||||||
| 4 | away on June 18, 2021; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Jeff Lair was born in Jacksonville to Harry | ||||||
| 6 | Francis and Marian Lois Summers Lair on January 22, 1951; he | ||||||
| 7 | graduated from Winchester High School; he married Jane Brown, | ||||||
| 8 | and they were later divorced; he married Shari Markillie in | ||||||
| 9 | Laramie, Wyoming on September 6, 2005, and she preceded him in | ||||||
| 10 | death on October 12, 2008; and
| ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, Jeff Lair worked as a dispatcher and deputy for | ||||||
| 12 | the Scott County Sheriff's Department; he served as Scott | ||||||
| 13 | County Coroner from 1974 to 1976, while he studied to become a | ||||||
| 14 | paramedic and developed an interest in death investigation; he | ||||||
| 15 | became a paramedic at Passavant Hospital in 1976 and became a | ||||||
| 16 | deputy coroner that same year; he was elected Morgan County | ||||||
| 17 | Coroner in 1984, and he served the county until his retirement | ||||||
| 18 | in 2019; his career at Passavant Hospital spanned 26 years; | ||||||
| 19 | following his retirement, he served as a security guard at | ||||||
| 20 | Memorial Medical Center in Springfield and continued his work | ||||||
| 21 | as owner of Lair Death Investigations, which he founded in | ||||||
| 22 | 1996; and

| 1 | WHEREAS, Jeff Lair was well-known for his passion as a | ||||||
| 2 | coroner and death investigator; he was board certified by the | ||||||
| 3 | American Board of Medicolegal Investigators and used his | ||||||
| 4 | knowledge in solving several previously unsolved homicides; he | ||||||
| 5 | also founded the Underwater Search and Recovery Team in Morgan | ||||||
| 6 | County and coordinated entomology classes for police | ||||||
| 7 | investigators on his property north of Jacksonville; and
| ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, Jeff Lair served as president of Mothers Against | ||||||
| 9 | Drunk Driving; he was an active member of Kiwanis Club of | ||||||
| 10 | Jacksonville; he also enjoyed golfing and riding his | ||||||
| 11 | motorcycle; and
| ||||||
| 12 | WHEREAS, Jeff Lair is survived by his children, Jennifer | ||||||
| 13 | Smith, Derek Lair, and Skyler Lair, and his sisters, Janice | ||||||
| 14 | (Donn) Lobb and Jane (Patrick) McGowan; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 15 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL | ||||||
| 16 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
| 17 | Jeff Lair and extend our sincere condolences to his family, | ||||||
| 18 | friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further
| ||||||
| 19 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 20 | presented to the family of Jeff Lair as an expression of our | ||||||
| 21 | deepest sympathy.
