2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
3 | to learn of the death of retired Shorewood Chief of Police | ||||||
4 | Robert "Bob" Paul Puleo, who passed away on June 4, 2021; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Bob Puleo was born to Paul and Mildred (Perino) | ||||||
6 | Puleo in Joliet on June 8, 1948; he was raised in the Church of | ||||||
7 | St. Anthony, graduated from Joliet Catholic High in 1966, and | ||||||
8 | received his bachelor's degree in Business Management from | ||||||
9 | Lewis University; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Bob Puleo began his career in the banking | ||||||
11 | industry before joining the Shorewood Police Department part | ||||||
12 | time; he later joined the Crest Hill Police Department for | ||||||
13 | five years as a full-time police officer; in 1984, he was hired | ||||||
14 | full time by the Shorewood Police Department, where he served | ||||||
15 | as a patrolman, sergeant, and lieutenant; in 1994, he was | ||||||
16 | named Chief of Police and held that position for 17 years until | ||||||
17 | his retirement in 2011; during his time as chief, he initiated | ||||||
18 | many new programs for the benefit of his department and his | ||||||
19 | community, including a police chaplain program, a bike patrol, | ||||||
20 | a community policing program, the citizen's police academy, a | ||||||
21 | special needs registry, a neighborhood watch, programs geared | ||||||
22 | to the needs of senior citizens, and others; and

1 | WHEREAS, Bob Puleo's professional accomplishments included | ||||||
2 | serving as training officer, public information officer, crime | ||||||
3 | prevention officer, and as the Shorewood Police Department's | ||||||
4 | DARE officer; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Bob Puleo's professional memberships included the | ||||||
6 | Illinois Association of the Chiefs of Police and the Will | ||||||
7 | County Association of Chiefs of Police, where he served as | ||||||
8 | president in 1999; he served the law enforcement community in | ||||||
9 | a number of other capacities with the Tri River Police | ||||||
10 | Training Region Advisory Board, the Western Will County | ||||||
11 | Communications Center (WESCOM) Chief's Advisory Board, the | ||||||
12 | Will County Emergency Telephone Safety Board, and the Suburban | ||||||
13 | Law Enforcement Academy Advisory Board; and | ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, Bob Puleo participated actively in his community | ||||||
15 | as a member of the Moran A. C., Joliet Elks Lodge #296, and the | ||||||
16 | American Italian Cultural Society, where he served as a member | ||||||
17 | of the board; and | ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, Bob Puleo was a beloved husband, father, and | ||||||
19 | grandfather who will be remembered for his patience in | ||||||
20 | teaching, playing games, and taking time to be a part of his | ||||||
21 | grandchildren's lives; he loved to fish with his sons and | ||||||
22 | grandchildren and considered his summer cottage in Michigan | ||||||
23 | his dream home; he was enormously proud to have his private |

1 | pilot's license and had a passion for cooking; he was a | ||||||
2 | talented rhythm guitar player and guitar instructor who had | ||||||
3 | been a member of the bands the Knights and the Intrigues in his | ||||||
4 | youth; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Bob Puleo was preceded in death by his parents; | ||||||
6 | and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Bob Puleo is survived by his beloved wife of 49 | ||||||
8 | years, Cindy (Offerman) Puleo; his three children, Robert Paul | ||||||
9 | (Kelli) Puleo Jr., Anthony (Kendra) Puleo, and Gina (Zachery) | ||||||
10 | Meister; his eleven grandchildren, Karli, Angelina, Dominic, | ||||||
11 | Giovanni, Reese, Delaney, Emmie, and Anthony Puleo, and | ||||||
12 | Giuliana, Luke, and Rowan Meister; his one sister, Virginia | ||||||
13 | (Gerald) Pasteris; his one brother, Paul (Mary) Puleo; his | ||||||
14 | several nieces and nephews; and his two beloved dogs who were | ||||||
15 | his shadows, Gabby and Finney; therefore, be it

16 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL | ||||||
17 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
18 | retired Shorewood Chief of Police Robert "Bob" Paul Puleo and | ||||||
19 | extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all | ||||||
20 | who knew and loved him; and be it further
| ||||||
21 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
22 | presented to the family of Bob Puleo as an expression of our |
