SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of retired Shorewood Chief of Police
4Robert "Bob" Paul Puleo, who passed away on June 4, 2021; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Bob Puleo was born to Paul and Mildred (Perino)
6Puleo in Joliet on June 8, 1948; he was raised in the Church of
7St. Anthony, graduated from Joliet Catholic High in 1966, and
8received his bachelor's degree in Business Management from
9Lewis University; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Bob Puleo began his career in the banking
11industry before joining the Shorewood Police Department part
12time; he later joined the Crest Hill Police Department for
13five years as a full-time police officer; in 1984, he was hired
14full time by the Shorewood Police Department, where he served
15as a patrolman, sergeant, and lieutenant; in 1994, he was
16named Chief of Police and held that position for 17 years until
17his retirement in 2011; during his time as chief, he initiated
18many new programs for the benefit of his department and his
19community, including a police chaplain program, a bike patrol,
20a community policing program, the citizen's police academy, a
21special needs registry, a neighborhood watch, programs geared
22to the needs of senior citizens, and others; and

1    WHEREAS, Bob Puleo's professional accomplishments included
2serving as training officer, public information officer, crime
3prevention officer, and as the Shorewood Police Department's
4DARE officer; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Bob Puleo's professional memberships included the
6Illinois Association of the Chiefs of Police and the Will
7County Association of Chiefs of Police, where he served as
8president in 1999; he served the law enforcement community in
9a number of other capacities with the Tri River Police
10Training Region Advisory Board, the Western Will County
11Communications Center (WESCOM) Chief's Advisory Board, the
12Will County Emergency Telephone Safety Board, and the Suburban
13Law Enforcement Academy Advisory Board; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Bob Puleo participated actively in his community
15as a member of the Moran A. C., Joliet Elks Lodge #296, and the
16American Italian Cultural Society, where he served as a member
17of the board; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Bob Puleo was a beloved husband, father, and
19grandfather who will be remembered for his patience in
20teaching, playing games, and taking time to be a part of his
21grandchildren's lives; he loved to fish with his sons and
22grandchildren and considered his summer cottage in Michigan
23his dream home; he was enormously proud to have his private

1pilot's license and had a passion for cooking; he was a
2talented rhythm guitar player and guitar instructor who had
3been a member of the bands the Knights and the Intrigues in his
4youth; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Bob Puleo was preceded in death by his parents;
6and
 
7    WHEREAS, Bob Puleo is survived by his beloved wife of 49
8years, Cindy (Offerman) Puleo; his three children, Robert Paul
9(Kelli) Puleo Jr., Anthony (Kendra) Puleo, and Gina (Zachery)
10Meister; his eleven grandchildren, Karli, Angelina, Dominic,
11Giovanni, Reese, Delaney, Emmie, and Anthony Puleo, and
12Giuliana, Luke, and Rowan Meister; his one sister, Virginia
13(Gerald) Pasteris; his one brother, Paul (Mary) Puleo; his
14several nieces and nephews; and his two beloved dogs who were
15his shadows, Gabby and Finney; therefore, be it
 
16    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
17ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
18retired Shorewood Chief of Police Robert "Bob" Paul Puleo and
19extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all
20who knew and loved him; and be it further
 
21    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
22presented to the family of Bob Puleo as an expression of our
