| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened |
| 3 | | to learn of the death of Susan Marilyn (Strom) Mogerman of |
| 4 | | Springfield, who passed away on July 14, 2021; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Susan Mogerman was born in Chicago to David H. |
| 6 | | Strom and Sylvia Abelson Strom on June 11, 1945; she attended |
| 7 | | South Shore High School in Chicago, where she was active in the |
| 8 | | arts and dramatics; her artistic talents were recognized with |
| 9 | | a scholarship to the Art Institute of Chicago; she attended |
| 10 | | the University of Illinois and the University of Missouri's |
| 11 | | School of Journalism; she married Jay Mogerman in Chicago on |
| 12 | | July 6, 1967; they moved to Springfield in 1970; and
|
| 13 | | WHEREAS, Susan Mogerman was among the young journalists |
| 14 | | who started The Illinois Times weekly newspaper; shortly |
| 15 | | thereafter, she was appointed to Governor Jim Thompson's Press |
| 16 | | Office, which began a long career of public service with the |
| 17 | | State of Illinois; she served as the director of the Illinois |
| 18 | | Historic Preservation Agency for more than a decade, where she |
| 19 | | was long involved in planning and developing the Abraham |
| 20 | | Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum; she directed Downtown |
| 21 | | Springfield, Inc. before becoming the chief operating officer |
| 22 | | of the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library Foundation, |
| 23 | | helping to build and open the facility; she also helped |
