SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Susan Marilyn (Strom) Mogerman of
4Springfield, who passed away on July 14, 2021; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Susan Mogerman was born in Chicago to David H.
6Strom and Sylvia Abelson Strom on June 11, 1945; she attended
7South Shore High School in Chicago, where she was active in the
8arts and dramatics; her artistic talents were recognized with
9a scholarship to the Art Institute of Chicago; she attended
10the University of Illinois and the University of Missouri's
11School of Journalism; she married Jay Mogerman in Chicago on
12July 6, 1967; they moved to Springfield in 1970; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Susan Mogerman was among the young journalists
14who started The Illinois Times weekly newspaper; shortly
15thereafter, she was appointed to Governor Jim Thompson's Press
16Office, which began a long career of public service with the
17State of Illinois; she served as the director of the Illinois
18Historic Preservation Agency for more than a decade, where she
19was long involved in planning and developing the Abraham
20Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum; she directed Downtown
21Springfield, Inc. before becoming the chief operating officer
22of the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library Foundation,
23helping to build and open the facility; she also helped

1establish the foundation's Lincoln Leadership Prize, which has
2been presented to such luminaries as Archbishop Desmond Tutu,
3Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor, and astronaut Jim
4Lovell; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Susan Mogerman was a member of Congregation
6Temple Israel in Springfield, the synagogue's Sisterhood, and
7Hadassah; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Susan Mogerman was preceded in death by her
9parents and her brother, Dr. Terry Strom; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Susan Mogerman is survived by her husband, Jay;
11her sons, Josh Mogerman (Jo-Elle) and Rob Mogerman; her
12grandson, Isaiah; her brother, Michael; and a bevy of cousins,
13nieces, and nephews; therefore, be it
 
14    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
15ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
16Susan Marilyn (Strom) Mogerman and extend our sincere
17condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved
18her; and be it further
 
19    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20presented to the family of Susan Mogerman as an expression of
21our deepest sympathy.
