| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
| 3 | to learn of the death of William L. "Bill" Boyd of | ||||||
| 4 | Chesterfield, Missouri, formerly of Springfield, who passed | ||||||
| 5 | away on February 7, 2021; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Bill Boyd was born in Coshocton, Ohio to Lester | ||||||
| 7 | and Opal King Boyd on January 11, 1931; he married Carolyn Ida | ||||||
| 8 | Emig in Gahanna, Ohio on July 31, 1955; he served in the U.S. | ||||||
| 9 | Navy during the Korean War as a corpsman and was proud of | ||||||
| 10 | circumnavigating the earth aboard the USS Worcester; he earned | ||||||
| 11 | his bachelor's degree from Capital University in Columbus, | ||||||
| 12 | Ohio and his master's degree in healthcare administration from | ||||||
| 13 | The University of Chicago; and
| ||||||
| 14 | WHEREAS, Bill Boyd retired as vice president of Memorial | ||||||
| 15 | Medical Center in 1992 after 35 years; he oversaw numerous | ||||||
| 16 | building projects in campus expansion, served as interim | ||||||
| 17 | president, and supported the creation of the Southern Illinois | ||||||
| 18 | University School of Medicine; and
| ||||||
| 19 | WHEREAS, Bill Boyd was a longtime member of Christ | ||||||
| 20 | Episcopal Church, where he served on the vestry and managed | ||||||
| 21 | the building and grounds; he was active in the Episcopal | ||||||
| 22 | Diocese, Boy Scout Troop 7, and Downtown Springfield, Inc., | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | where he received the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2009; he | ||||||
| 2 | especially enjoyed serving as executive director of the | ||||||
| 3 | Festival of Trees for many years; he played in several bagpipe | ||||||
| 4 | bands, including Springfield's St. Andrew's Society Pipes and | ||||||
| 5 | Drums; he was a long-standing official with the Illini | ||||||
| 6 | Striders Track and Field team; he was a devoted husband and | ||||||
| 7 | father; and
| ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, Bill Boyd was preceded in death by his wife, | ||||||
| 9 | Carolyn; his parents; and his brother, Dr. Richard A. Boyd; | ||||||
| 10 | and
| ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, Bill Boyd is survived by his children, Craig | ||||||
| 12 | (Louann) Boyd, Keith (Peggy) Boyd, Leslie (Simon) Abrahms, and | ||||||
| 13 | Kent Boyd; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and | ||||||
| 14 | his sister, Leann Boyd Smith; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 15 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL | ||||||
| 16 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
| 17 | William L. "Bill" Boyd and extend our sincere condolences to | ||||||
| 18 | his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
| 19 | further
| ||||||
| 20 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 21 | presented to the family of Bill Boyd as an expression of our | ||||||
| 22 | deepest sympathy.
