SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Donald E. "Don" Johnston of Moline, who passed away on August 7, 2021; and

WHEREAS, Don Johnston was born in Moline to Eugene "Sqeak" and Irene Swanson Johnston on April 29, 1948; he graduated from Moline High School in 1966 and served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War; he married Debbie Johnston, and they had two sons and later divorced; and

WHEREAS, Don Johnston worked as a business agent for the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 150 District 8, Rock Island; he also owned and operated JV Consulting; and

WHEREAS, Don Johnston was elected Moline Township Supervisor in 2005; he was appointed to the county board in 2010 and elected that November, representing District 11; he was active in the Democratic Party and served as the 17th Congressional Democratic State Central Committeeman; he also served as the labor liaison for U.S. Senator Paul Simon; and

WHEREAS, Don Johnston was a busy man and always worked extremely hard on the current project or problem; he enjoyed boating so much he bought a boat and became captain of his ship, Cabin Fever, which gave him much needed time with family and friends doing what he loved; and

WHEREAS, Don Johnston was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Donny Johnston; and

WHEREAS, Don Johnston is survived by his son, Jasen Johnston; two grandchildren; his sister, Jane Johnston; and his life-long friend, Pat Veronda; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Donald E. "Don" Johnston and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Don Johnston as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
