SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of William E. "Bill" Shannon of Elk Grove
4Village, who passed away on August 9, 2021; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Bill Shannon was born in Jefferson, Wisconsin in
61930; he graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison
7and married Joan M. McWayne on September 26, 1959; and
 
8    WHEREAS, After 34 years, Bill Shannon retired from the New
9York Life Insurance Company as manager of the Chicago office;
10he also worked for several years after his retirement for the
11Byerly & Co. insurance agency; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Bill Shannon and his wife moved to Elk Grove in
131961; he was a man with a strong sense of community; he served
14on the Elk Grove Planning Commission for 12 years, from 1971 to
151974 as chairman; he was affectionately known as "Mr. Elk
16Grove" and helped shape the village's footprint and the next
17generation of leaders; he was well known because he helped in
18so many areas of the village; he was selected to be the grand
19marshal of the Elk Grove Village 40th anniversary parade in
201996; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Bill Shannon was a model of his Catholic faith;

1he founded and directed the Queen of the Rosary Catholic
2School religious education program from 1968 to 2003; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Bill Shannon was the beloved husband of the late
4Joan; the loving father of the late Tim Shannon, Sheila (Jeff)
5Starr, Steve Shannon (Kevin Wallace), and Laurie Shannon
6Tichvon; the dear brother of Sheila (Ron) Kostroski, Janet
7(Marv) Ferguson, and the late Jim, Patricia, Keith, Tom, and
8Jerry; the cherished grandfather of Andrew (Courtney), Greg,
9Matthew (Nicole), Dan, Meredith, Andrea, and Colin; and uncle
10to many loving nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
12ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
13William E. "Bill" Shannon and extend our sincere condolences
14to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be
15it further
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17presented to the family of Bill Shannon as an expression of our
18deepest sympathy.
