| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened |
| 3 | | to learn of the death of Marvin Neely of Rock Island, who |
| 4 | | passed away on August 22, 2021; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Marvin Neely was born to Clay and Ina (Holton) |
| 6 | | Neely in DeKalb, Mississippi on September 5, 1931; he joined |
| 7 | | Center Ridge Baptist Church at an early age and graduated from |
| 8 | | Whisenton High School; he honorably served in the U.S. Marine |
| 9 | | Corps during the Korean War; he married Louise Watkins on July |
| 10 | | 23, 1955; and
|
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Marvin Neely worked at the Rock Island Arsenal |
| 12 | | for 38 years; and
|
| 13 | | WHEREAS, Marvin Neely enjoyed many years of league bowling |
| 14 | | at Town & Country; he was a member of Second Baptist Church in |
| 15 | | Rock Island where he served as an usher; he was also a longtime |
| 16 | | member of the Elks and Lions Clubs; and
|
| 17 | | WHEREAS, Throughout his retirement years, Marvin Neely |
| 18 | | enjoyed playing golf, watching his stories such as The Young |
| 19 | | and the Restless, and cheering on his favorite sports teams, |
| 20 | | especially the Chicago Cubs and Bears; he loved to laugh, |
| 21 | | joke, tell stories, and celebrate his family's |

| 1 | | accomplishments; and
|
| 2 | | WHEREAS, Marvin Neely was preceded in death by his parents |
| 3 | | and his siblings, Ella, Mary, Henry Clay, James, Benjamin, and |
| 4 | | Charlie; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Marvin Neely is survived by his wife, Louise; his |
| 6 | | children, Willie (Cyntra) Neely, Marvin (Judy) Neely, Lynette |
| 7 | | (Donnie) Neely-McDuffy, Lanolia Neely, and James (Bridget) |
| 8 | | Neely; his grandchildren, Tonia (Teonta) Williams-Neely, Tosha |
| 9 | | (Ishmael) Neely-Obleton, Monica Sanders, Shaylan McDuffy, |
| 10 | | Julia Garrison, and Tonette, Marvin (Jasmine), Christopher, |
| 11 | | Jeremy, James, Malcolm, Julian, and Jaden Neely; his 13 |
| 12 | | great-grandchildren; his siblings, Jimmie, Lanolia, and |
| 13 | | Edward; and his loving pet, Bo; therefore, be it

| 14 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL |
| 15 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of

| 16 | | Marvin Neely and extend our sincere
condolences to his family, |
| 17 | | friends, and all who knew and loved
him; and be it further
