|
| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened |
| 3 | | to learn of the death of Alberto S. Nieto, Ph.D., of Champaign, |
| 4 | | who passed away on August 30, 2021; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Nieto was born in Tacna, Peru on June 19, |
| 6 | | 1938; he left South America to continue his education; he |
| 7 | | received his master's degree from Washington University in St. |
| 8 | | Louis; he earned his Ph.D. in Geology from the University of |
| 9 | | Illinois; and
|
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Nieto was retained to teach in both the Civil |
| 11 | | Engineering and Geology Departments at the University of |
| 12 | | Illinois when he completed his doctorate; he taught at the |
| 13 | | University of Illinois for 30 years; he was one of only seven |
| 14 | | geotechnical engineering faculty honored with individual |
| 15 | | laboratories in the newly built geotechnical engineering |
| 16 | | addition to the Civil and Environmental Engineering building; |
| 17 | | he retired in 2000; and
|
| 18 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Nieto took up painting, drawing, and |
| 19 | | sketching after his retirement; he also attended a variety of |
| 20 | | art classes at Parkland College; he enjoyed cooking meals |
| 21 | | featuring the foods of Peru; and
|
|

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Nieto was known for being an outstanding |
| 2 | | professor and often the life of any party; he adored his |
| 3 | | grandchildren and lived to make them laugh and to make sure |
| 4 | | they knew how much they were loved; he will be remembered most |
| 5 | | as someone who shared his love and sense of humor liberally |
| 6 | | with family and friends; and
|
| 7 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Nieto was preceded in death by his father, |
| 8 | | Carlos; his mother, Emilia; and his ex-wife, Lynn; and
|
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Nieto is survived by his wife, Nancy Benson |
| 10 | | Nieto; his sons, Carlos and Marco; his sisters, Nanita and |
| 11 | | Melita; his grandchildren, Sofia, Nina, Mario, Enzo, and Nico; |
| 12 | | his three nieces; and his one nephew; therefore, be it
|
| 13 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL |
| 14 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
| 15 | | Alberto S. Nieto and extend our sincere condolences to his |
| 16 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it |
| 17 | | further
|
| 18 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 19 | | presented to the family of Dr. Nieto as an expression of our |
| 20 | | deepest sympathy.
