SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Roger Mills Landon of Chandlerville, who passed away on September 14, 2021; and

WHEREAS, Roger Landon was born to Harold C. and Lou Ellen (Mashburn) Landon in Jerseyville on May 3, 1944; he graduated from Jersey Community High School in Jerseyville in 1962; he earned his bachelor's degree in Education from Illinois State University in Normal and his master's degree in Education from the University of Illinois-Champaign; he married Regina "Jeannie" Kuhn at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oconee on July 6, 1968; and

WHEREAS, Roger Landon began his teaching career as an agriculture teacher at Chandlerville High School in 1967; he became principal in 1974 and remained in that position until 1982; he then joined the team at Country Financial and opened his own office in Beardstown, where he remained for 31 years until retiring in 2013; and

WHEREAS, Alongside his wife, Roger Landon organized the Saddle Up for St. Jude event to benefit St. Jude Children's Research Hospital for the last 20 years, which has raised over $800,000; he received the Event Coordinator of the Year Award in 2012; and

WHEREAS, Roger Landon loved horses from an early age; throughout his life, he raised, trained, and showed Morgan horses in numerous venues throughout the country; he passed his love of horses to his children and grandchildren, properly teaching them how to ride; he enjoyed trail riding and camping with family and friends; and

WHEREAS, Roger Landon was known for approaching any task or hobby with unmatched passion; he loved his family with his whole heart and was very proud of his grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, Roger Landon was preceded in death by his parents; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Robert Charles and Virginia Kuhn; his brothers-in-law, Jerome "Jerry" Essington, Joseph Kuhn, and Kevin Kuhn; his sister-in-law, Carole (Kuhn) Wetherell; and his nephew, Jay M. Essington; and

WHEREAS, Roger Landon is survived by his wife of 53 years, Regina "Jeannie" Landon; his sons and daughters-in-law, Roger Michael (Tara) Landon and Ryan (Mariah) Landon; his grandchildren, Marlee (Ross) Hager, Kane Landon, and Brody Landon; his step-grandchildren, Conner Peterson and Logan Peterson; and his siblings and their spouses, Harold (Myrna) Landon, Mary Ellen Essington, Janet (Carl) Crawford, Elizabeth (Gerald) Fritz, and David Landon; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Roger Mills Landon and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Roger Landon as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
