| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened |
| 3 | | to learn of the death of Roger Mills Landon of Chandlerville, |
| 4 | | who passed away on September 14, 2021; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Roger Landon was born to Harold C. and Lou Ellen |
| 6 | | (Mashburn) Landon in Jerseyville on May 3, 1944; he graduated |
| 7 | | from Jersey Community High School in Jerseyville in 1962; he |
| 8 | | earned his bachelor's degree in Education from Illinois State |
| 9 | | University in Normal and his master's degree in Education from |
| 10 | | the University of Illinois-Champaign; he married Regina |
| 11 | | "Jeannie" Kuhn at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oconee |
| 12 | | on July 6, 1968; and
|
| 13 | | WHEREAS, Roger Landon began his teaching career as an |
| 14 | | agriculture teacher at Chandlerville High School in 1967; he |
| 15 | | became principal in 1974 and remained in that position until |
| 16 | | 1982; he then joined the team at Country Financial and opened |
| 17 | | his own office in Beardstown, where he remained for 31 years |
| 18 | | until retiring in 2013; and
|
| 19 | | WHEREAS, Alongside his wife, Roger Landon organized the |
| 20 | | Saddle Up for St. Jude event to benefit St. Jude Children's |
| 21 | | Research Hospital for the last 20 years, which has raised over |
| 22 | | $800,000; he received the Event Coordinator of the Year Award |

| 1 | | in 2012; and
|
| 2 | | WHEREAS, Roger Landon loved horses from an early age; |
| 3 | | throughout his life, he raised, trained, and showed Morgan |
| 4 | | horses in numerous venues throughout the country; he passed |
| 5 | | his love of horses to his children and grandchildren, properly |
| 6 | | teaching them how to ride; he enjoyed trail riding and camping |
| 7 | | with family and friends; and
|
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Roger Landon was known for approaching any task |
| 9 | | or hobby with unmatched passion; he loved his family with his |
| 10 | | whole heart and was very proud of his grandchildren; and
|
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Roger Landon was preceded in death by his |
| 12 | | parents; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Robert Charles |
| 13 | | and Virginia Kuhn; his brothers-in-law, Jerome "Jerry" |
| 14 | | Essington, Joseph Kuhn, and Kevin Kuhn; his sister-in-law, |
| 15 | | Carole (Kuhn) Wetherell; and his nephew, Jay M. Essington; and
|
| 16 | | WHEREAS, Roger Landon is survived by his wife of 53 years, |
| 17 | | Regina "Jeannie" Landon; his sons and daughters-in-law, Roger |
| 18 | | Michael (Tara) Landon and Ryan (Mariah) Landon; his |
| 19 | | grandchildren, Marlee (Ross) Hager, Kane Landon, and Brody |
| 20 | | Landon; his step-grandchildren, Conner Peterson and Logan |
| 21 | | Peterson; and his siblings and their spouses, Harold (Myrna) |
| 22 | | Landon, Mary Ellen Essington, Janet (Carl) Crawford, Elizabeth |

| 1 | | (Gerald) Fritz, and David Landon; therefore, be it

| 2 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL |
| 3 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
| 4 | | Roger Mills Landon and extend our sincere condolences to his |
| 5 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it |
| 6 | | further
|
| 7 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 8 | | presented to the family of Roger Landon as an expression of our |
| 9 | | deepest sympathy.
