2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened |
3 | | to learn of the death of George John Schlenker of Rock Island, |
4 | | who passed away on September 15, 2021; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, George Schlenker was born to Carl and Flora |
6 | | (Boerger) Schlenker in Fort Wayne, Indiana on July 23, 1931; |
7 | | he attended Fort Wayne Public Schools and graduated from |
8 | | Indiana University with a bachelor's degree in 1953; he then |
9 | | attended the University of Iowa Graduate Program and received |
10 | | his master's degree in engineering in 1968; he married Emily |
11 | | C. Diehl in Moline on April 28, 1962, and they divorced in |
12 | | 1993; he served in the U.S. Army; and
|
13 | | WHEREAS, George Schlenker taught in the graduate school |
14 | | program at Indiana University for one year; he then taught for |
15 | | the Fort Wayne public school system for two years before |
16 | | entering the Army; after being honorably discharged, he was |
17 | | employed as an operations research analyst with the Rock |
18 | | Island Civilian Service for the Department of the Army until |
19 | | his retirement in 1996; and
|
20 | | WHEREAS, George Schlenker received the Army Civilian |
21 | | Meritorious Service Award from the Department of Defense for |
22 | | his work on guided missile systems; and |
